Shift points

Did quite a bit of searching but found no definitive answer, likely because there really isn't one. Working through some revisions with Torrie and am curious where I should have him set the shift points on the MKS. They seem quite low right now.

1-2 5200
2-3 5200
3-4 5600

Just taking a look at other logs I see most are higher like 6k. Any suggestions on a stock non PP drive train? Have not had it on the dyno so nothing to go off of there.

Thanks,
Scott

I assume it is a result of optimizing peak tq/hp, trans shift capabilities/reaction times and traction.

Yeah that is what I figured. FoMoCoSHO, I was looking at your 2015 log, that is where I say 6k.

livernois has them @ 6200 on my 4+ & 4x tune

That's substantially different. From what I understand you want to shift just past peak horsepower landing at a point just prior to peak horsepower after the shift. Essentially at equal points on either side of the curve.  I haven't looked an enough dyno charts to know where that is on this car, let alone where that is in each gear.

If you don't have a cai that may be the reason. Cai doesn't really make power bit it does seem to carry it longer. I was on the OEM box on the 2013.

I assure you power is falling off hard at 6200.

I wouldnt over think it...6k seems to be nice..the turbo has a hard time above 6k...and even with a bigger turbo i dont know if this is a rev happy motor anyway

Yeah I agree, its not a big deal to move it around. I could have him bump it all up to 5800, it will shift by about 6k and see how it does. If it doesn't show at the track or on the logs then I can always move it back.

Torrie had the 2013 setup to shift that way.

It never felt right but I couldn't argue with the results.
You had good results with the lower shift points?

Car had quite a few revisions after that weren't track tested due to unexpected trade in. It was pretty nasty.

What were the shift points on either of the cars? Were they low or like mine at 6200rpm?

Have you been doing revisions on your tune? Or is your 12.9 the first base tune?
Yes I have had revisions done. But my 12.9 tune was setup to be used in 40 degree weather. The day I went to the track it was a freak 72 degrees. So the tune was dialed back because of fuel pressure safety

2015 shifts at 6200

2013 shifted at 5700 iirc.
Torrie had mine set at 5700 on my original tune. It felt slower so I had him change it to 6200. Maybe it wasn't slower, I didn't actually test it. The same can be said for the mustang foxbody cars, shifting around 5-5100 always got me better e.t's at the track. Redline on tach was 5500 I think.

You could look at logs to get an idea. Pick two speeds with one or more shifts in between and compare the time between the two with different shift points. For example 60-100 with the 3/4 shift might be 7.2 seconds with one shift point but 7.1 with another. Not an exact science but a start.
