SHO May be totaled, IDK what to do...

Long story short, someone tried to pass me, at ~85 mph, while I was in the left lane (he tried to pass on the shoulder) and he was about halfway past me when he cut over - I swerved to avoid impact, the back end came out, and he clipped my front end. The SHO did a 180, and bounced off the right shoulder on the road, did another 180, and stopped against the left shoulder (another railing).

Insurance is thinking it may be totaled (Needs pretty much a complete front clip, including A-pillar), as well as rear bumper, driver side tailights (both), and the rear quarter panel (possibly trunk as well). Front rim is cracked, tire is screwed, and looks like there may be suspension damage. The hood is caved in as well.

At this point if they total it im 50/50 on buying back to part it out. If they total I will forsure get my parts if I can (gauge pod, Airaid, Downpipes, catback if possible, T-stat).

All the doors are fine, passenger side is untouched, and interior is still pretty much brand new, other than the steering wheel (alcantra is messed up but has been since almost brand new).

If it gets totalled I am thinking of getting into a 2017 SHO, or going for a GT350 or an RS. Other option is getting a cheap, crappy beater, and a used SHO.

What do you guys thinK? No pics, I couldn't stand to take any cause I wouldn't be able to stop looking at it...

1. I'm glad you're safe most of all, that's all that matters.
2. Nothing you can do right now, sit back and wait for what's going to come, your options will present themselves once the adjuster and insurance pow wow.
For now relax, be thankful you're fine and try and chill while you wait.

No need to worry about the lack of boost anymore....

On a serious note, glad you are ok. Cars can always be replaced... people can't..

If I was single without kids... the RS or the 350 would be interesting..if you like the big 4 door, I would give the Chevy SS a very hard look... RWD, big V8... manual...

Damn that sucks at least nobody I presume was hurt. Some pictures might help.

Man, I was shocked to hear what happened to you & your SHO.  Very scary, and am thankful you are OK!  I will hope for the best outcome for you, SHO or no SHO.

I noticed you were pretty much MIA the past couple of days but never thought or imagined this would happen but X2 ON THE ABOVE and Glad your okay and in one piece and car's come and go but people don't.
Best of luck on a Speedy Recovery and Resolution on the matter. Z

Thanks all for the kind words,

As it sits I have to wait for insurance to tow the car to their facility and assess if it is a total loss or not.

Thankfully no one was injured, as you guys said, cars can be replaced, people can't. I can't stop replaying the car spinning out of control, truly a scary experience.

I will keep you guys up to date.

Find a used gtr and mod the crap of that one.  I've read people getting lucky and getting ones for $20,000 that's what I'm going to try getting when I'm allowed to just get a sports car

About 16 years ago I hydroplaned on a back road at 80mph... hadn't rained in over two weeks, water pipe busted, flooded the road...

I ping ponged back and forth through the trees, across the road a few times, stopped backwards in a ditch... no seatbelt... ended up in the back passenger seat of the car...

Still remember it like it was yesterday... be thankful you are OK and around to tell the story :-D

Damn man, glad your ok. An event like that can really put things in perspective. The one accident I was in years ago is still very vivid in my mind.
It was like slow motion as it happened.

Just gonna leave this here... 10K under MSRP... in case the SHO is totaled...

My dad would disown me if I bought a Chevy lol.

If it is totaled out, I'll try and get my mods off of it, and go for a 2017 most likely. There is also the Lincoln MKS floating around on the forum here that looks kinda interesting (other than being silver...).

Otherwise, may just get into a cheap beater crown vic or something, and get a nicer car a little down the road.

I honestly thing its fixable, and that the agents are over reacting due to the fact that they were told it bounced from guard rail to guard rail making it sound much worse than it really it. They probably expect all the exterior to be damaged, rather than just front driver side and rear driver side, with doors unscathed (which is weird since the driver side mirror is ruined)

So glad you are OK!  I've been in a rollover accident and I will never forget it.  I know we are all thankful for the Taurus 5 star crash safety rating right now!

I have found insurance companies are more skittish than ever regarding the liability of fixing a wrecked vehicle and will total more frequently than not.  Especially if there is even a hint of suspension damage.

Good luck with everything!

Don

Best driver said that the Chevy ss was a better choice then the sho  mainly because of the my Ford touch.

Car is being moved to an insurance junkyard for them to assess if it is a total loss or what. I found a 2013, white SHO, with PP pretty close by. Has a moonroof (meh/No-Want) but it seems to be a pretty decent price and has under 50k miles with a 7yr/100k warranty.

The same dealer also has an RS, and some roush mustangs, so a few testdrives may be in order if I get word that I'm totalled...

Even if my baby isn't totalled, i may still pick up the 2013 because screw it. Baby one and drive the other.

There is also a 2011 locally for sale, non-PP, "Stock", but sold with extra parts to include SCT X3, 3 bar, K&N, Stage 3 motorsports downpipes, has a muffler delete done, and has 2 12's in the trunk. I would prefer the 13 over the 11 but who knows.

Damn, derf! Just saw this...

You didn't happen to get any sweet video with that new GoPro, did you? :P

If push comes to shove, it might be time to join the XSport crowd. ;)

In all seriousness, though, glad you're okay!

Didn't have the camera set up, though I can't get the image out of my head of the car spinning out of control like that, so kinda glad there isn't video on top of that.

I'll probably head to the dealership that has the 2013 and look around, they have an RS as well, a GHIG 2014 Coyote Mustang, a few STs, etc.

If worst comes to worse, depending on title status on the SHO, and cost to buy back, I may make it a dedicated drag car, and leave the body beat up and get something else to DD. Ie. gut the interior on the 2015, and save the parts/sell em for some cash. Gut the electronics not needed for racing, ie radio, gut the AC, etc. on top of the missing body panels (LOL) weight reduction would be pretty decent.

But in all honesty, if it is totaled out, I will probably buy back and strip off my aftermarket parts and either sell them, or save them to go on another SHO. Part out the random good parts for anyone interested (seats, radio, etc.), and then scrap the rest.
