Some weird problem !

Hey guys,

So I've had the car for almost a year now, been noticing some weird things happening with the car.

1- Check engine light comes on every 2 days then goes away for another 2 days.

2- When checking, I'm getting the "P0020" code. Tried checking it, and checking for parts, but couldn't find the specific part.

3- This has happened a few times, while driving normally, check engine light starts flashing on and off, car shakes really bad, strong petrol smell, and the car would have almost no power for anything, took it to a workshop, they said "Spark Plugs, Coils, and 2 Exhaust sensors". Changed them, problem still happens, and it happens really bad, I would have to switch the car off for about 5 to 10 minutes, then start it, and it would start very smooth and normal and powerful as it should be.

4- Sometimes while driving, I get messages telling me "Blind Spot Off, Service AdvanceTrac" and almost every sensor in the car, until I switch the car off and on again, then things would get back to normal and fully functioning.

Any ideas?, it's annoying me too much, it's making me hate the car honestly.

Is it the CPU? the PCM? if not.. what could it possibly be?

Thanks !

Flashing cel is telling you the engine is reducing power to save itself.
P0020 is a camshaft position actuator fault.
Lots of info here.

https://www.obd-codes.com/p0020

Camshaft actuator - P0020 - can try disconnecting and reconnecting the VCT solenoid electrical connector see if that helps.  Could be a loose wire in the connector/harness, check that also.
Fuel Injector - very strong possibility of cause of petrol smell.  Should replace as a set since the fuel rail has to be taken off anyway.
Sensors - rain?  carwash?  both have been known to temporarily glitch the sensors because of contaminated connections.  Clean, grease and reseal the sensor connectors.

Hey !

1- As for the code P0020, yes I have once removed the VCT solenoid electrical connector and also removed the negative battery wire for over 35 minutes. It stopped, for like 10 days, then came back.

2- Is there any way for me to check which one of the injectors may possibly be faulty? Or would I have to replace all at once?

3- Nothing related to any of them, it just happens randomly, restarting the car would remove all messages.

In addition to the above, I suggest checking the CAC (intercooler) for oil build up.  Your car may be periodically ingesting oil which will have it throw codes and run poorly.

Will give it a try and check, my car runs perfect when no CEL is on... I even race with it and it runs perfect. But I'll give it a look to see and to fix if there was anything.

Thank you :)

This is so annoying.

I couldn't find the part number for the P0020 problem. NOT EVEN THE DEALER HERE KNOWS IT smh.

I mean I tried removing the wire.. Looks fine, went to the dealership.. They stayed 30 minutes trying to know the part number... But they never did... what shall I do :(

Which part are you trying to find the mumber for, the connector, solenoid, or ...  Personally, I would ask for help from Levittown Ford or Tasca Ford.  They have knowledgeable parts guys.  Benny is the guy to talk to at Levittown, and I know they ship overseas if need be.

Thats the problem, Im not sure if it is the connector or the solenoid itself.. thats what the dealership failed to know.

But I will give it a try and try contacting the people you mentioned and see if I can find the part number at least.

Rockauto lists a wide variety of electrical connectors you may want to peruse.  in this Case, likely

I've looked a lot online and came up with one thing.

Now obviously I will make sure with the dealer about the issue.

But I had one question. Is the part thats causing me all the headache from the part in the attached picture? Because as far as I understood, this is the Engine Variable Timing Solenoid, which is the Camshaft Actuator right? I found the part number which is (6M280) from the Ford Parts website.

I ask a lot of questions I am very sorry for that, It is just that I'm learning and really starting to understand more and more, and since the dealer here knows nothing, I will find my way to get the right part replaced without him messing around my engine.

Thanks !

On my 15 they went cheap and used some crappy electrical tape instead of wire loom so the tape failed from the heat and chaffed the pigtail.

I'd get in there and inspect the pigtail closely, I was able to see where the issue was, it was also stretched too tight and was rubbing against the bottom of the valve cover IIRC.

Exactly,

I'll make sure all the wires are okay before buying or changing any parts, definitely don't want to pay a lot for nothing
