Not familiar with these filter changes myself, but I do know that once tuned it will produce a better sound.ElvenSho said:I will probably go with Torrie once I am ready to tune since I can datalog and he can set the tune exactly for my car. I did the same for my focus with a different tuner (Tom) and was happy. What device do you suggest to monitor the car?SHOnUup said:If you tune with the 2 suggested (Livernois or Torrie) here you should have no worries on reliability. If you are worried these tuners have many milder tunes to start out with to ease your mind.ElvenSho said:Well I checked every autoparts store in my area and nobody had the plugs so I had them ordered and should be here by tuesday. I will be checking the wires today and also filling it up with 93 octane so that should make a nice difference. Should I go with knn drop in filter or stock paper one? Also I will look at the bov mod too to make the turbos a bit more noticable. Anyone do this mod and habe issues after? From reading the tread nobody has issues but I am a bit nervous. Its my first turbo car and from reading stuff online everyone blows them up and now I am worried about even getting on it lol
I'd suggest using some kind of device to allow you to monitor your car. This is the best piece of mind you can have I think on noticing anything going bad.

ElvenSho said:Does one give it a bit more sound over the other? I dont like the idea of oiled filters and will look around for other options. I would like a bit of turbo sound tho, the car pretty much sounds n/a at this point.SHOnUup said:As for the filter, something new would be a good idea just so you know it's clean and working how it should. Don't think there's much of a difference in performance.

Gotcha thanksSHOnUup said:Torque Pro is the app of choice so far to monitor. This only runs on android devices unfortunately. OBDII MX is best scantool ($100) and 7" tablets seem to be best size for display without being to big.

Ok I will go with the stock paper filter and do the bov bypass. Thank you!glock-coma said:I have the k&n panel filter. There is no difference in sound than stock.
If you do the BOV bypass that will make a huge difference in that ppsssshhhh sound.

Yup looks like i will stick to stock. I just put 93 octane and a new paper filter. The car feels so much smoother already. Didnt get on it but feels more powerful just cruising around. Now juat to do the plugs and the bov modFoMoCoSHO said:I don't believe the k&n filters as well as paper and I don't believe there is any issue with air flow at these power levels so I went back to stock box and filter. Best time was with OEM setup. There is currently a K&N Typhoon and panel residing on my garage floor.
I think because the oil from the filter can hurt the turbo.cror1 said:Off the subject, kind off, but I'm curious why people don't prefer using oiled filters like drop in k&n?
Spartn27 said:Along with what ZSHO said about over oiling, the main reason people seem to be afraid of oiled filters for is that excess oil can find its way onto the MAP/MAF sensor on their cars. Those air sensors are very, very delicate and you could see the most erratic behavior develop (even with shifting of the transmission) with a dirty sensor.
Keyword though is "excess" oil, therefore if you know how to oil a filter properly you should have no problems. I actually prefer a lightly oiled filter over a dry filter since it traps more dirt, it is just more maintenance whereas a dry filter you would toss out and replace at XXX miles.
Could this be a factor in my mystery random tranny hiccup....that would be too easy! Gotta try it.SHOnUup said:Yes, yes and yes. MAF cleaner on the MAP sensors is great maintenance and easily done.
