      12.0 Index - Heads Up on a 12.00 Dial (16 car field)
King of the Hill - Bracket Race with a Pro Tree

You guy are the fastest guys in the club!!!!!!!!!!!! I never ran a race on the track until this SHO. I learn every thing I think I know about dragracing from you guys. THANKS!!  But this is the 1st time running Bracket Racing HELP!!!! How do I Stage? How run slower cars? How do I run Faster cars. How do I choice my dial-in times? HELP!!!!!! ANYBODY, EVERYBODY You to 4DR

It's not hard. Typically you'll get 2-3 time trials to run and see what the car is going to run for the day and then you choose your dial-in. Two schools of thought on choosing. 1st is a couple hundredths faster than you've been running so you don't break-out or second a few hundredths or so slower (sandbagging) so you can have some room to catch and let off if you get ahead of them before the end. Do all the other exactly as you've been doing so you're comfortable. Same staging, same rpm's etc. you're reaction time is very influential in bracket racing too, you want to be close but not red light. Also don't go faster than your dial, if you do then you automatically lose, unless the other guy breaks out by more.

I'm sure some others can add a few other tricks, but being your first time, keep it simple.

Your reaction matters now, so stage deep. Also they should have a time trails to dial in your ET. Establish a number and do not go beyond that. Example you do 3 time trails say 12.30, 12.35, 12.37 what you would is average these times. But with these examples I would probably go with middle ET. Also these are not heads up races, the 2 racers will leave a separate times. 1st one to the end wins with breaking out of there selected ET. If you go to fast you loss. Bracket racing is a test of your consistency. Not how fast you can go. So reaction time a consistent ET are what wins.

With an auto without a 2-step or transbrake I wouldn't even bother brake boosting at the line.  As as already been said, you aren't looking for the best ET's, just consistent ones.  If you get really serious, then you will start to build up a log book, which shows what ET you ran at what track, and under what conditions.  Eventually, if the car mods stay consistent, you will have a very good idea of what your car will run at a given track and conditions.  Try to keep your car warmed up to the same temps each time you are ready to make another run.  This helps you stay consistent as well.

My philosophy has always been to run your race and don't be concerned with what your opponent is doing.  You may think that you are breaking out on a given run because you are really far ahead in a run, what you don't know is what kind of reaction time your opponent had.  Also, try not to get worked up when waiting for your side of the tree to cycle when running against a slower opponent, you'll get jumpy if you aren't careful and could red light.

I have been in my share of bracket races before and they can be quite fun.  The last time I was in one was when I still had my Mustang, and it seemed like my side of the bracket was full of 14 and 15 second cars.  Running 4 and 5 seconds faster and having to to go feels like an eternity and it was really had to judge how I was doing come the finish line since I was out trapping the other cars by sometimes 40mph on the big end.  It was fun and I finished third.  I want to get out there with the truck if I ever get some extra time on a Saturday.

Thanks FA-SHO! I see you have DynoMax  mufflers and a x-pipe. Do you have 2 1/4 or 2 1/2" x-pipe and exhaust pipe?

You have been given great info... Only thing I can add is watch what is observe what is happening to other runners times.  If they are going down,  be prepared to run  faster than before if you WOT all the way.  If things are slowing down (track - DA going up...) then you will run slower.  Daytime going into cooler night time running will likely see faster times as the night gets cooler.

YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A BLAST!!!!!  ENJOY!

Thank Steve {"MASTER JEDI of SPEED") This JEDI-in-Training will DO(NOT TRY) you pride. I'll be reading this many times!! 1st up , I ask you why my fastest ET is not fastest trip time. Answer (" In the old (NHRA) system, a light beam was placed 60 feet in front of the finish line and 60 feet after the finish line. The computer would calculate your average speed through this 120 foot region. To get a true trap speed, you had to stay on the throttle until you cleared the last light.") This is just in the 1st thing I READ & LEARN! Thanks Steve.

If I remember correctly stock pipe is 2 1/4.

YES stock is 2 1/4". If you go to 2 1/2" exhaust the DynoMax have 2 1/2" pipes on them with the end step down to fit the stock 2 1/4 pipe. they can be welded right on to your new 2 1/2" pipes.

Thanks EBB!!! I hope you make it by! Even if you just get by to hang out.

Yeah, my opinion is dual 2 1/4 is plenty exhaust for our engine and besides the x-pipe in place of the third cat and resonator the factory cats and downpipes are the most restriction.

I would love to get the downpipes and meth, but we have our first child on the way so I don't see getting permission from the CEO (wife).

Shoman04......

I have no pointers for you, beyond the suggestions given by other members posted here before me.

Good luck and keep us posted as to how you do! :ok:

You SHO's are space limited... Us FLEX dudes however have room for jet engines and afterburners if you remove the tailgate!!!  I do have to keep reminding myself not to use it on the hwy... especially in downtown Atlanta!
