Strange ticking noise

I would be very carefully unsung 87 in a sho, tuned or not... There is a advisory on every gas station pump claiming the "range" an octane rating can be within... Around here it's usually +/- 3, now if running 87 through your sho sounds ok, how does running 84 sound? Besides, you can't always hear detonation happening, and no matter how Breif it happens or how little load was applied to the engine while it was happening, it does damage! So just daily driving around, spirited freeway runs or showing a new SS camaro who's boss, if your running 87 in your tank it's a roll of the dice. All of this is of course my opinion, so it may be and likely is incorrect on one level or another.

Perhaps you could provide a audio clip of exactly what your hearing. As these motors are on the noisy side with lots of clinking and tapping. The high pressure fuel pump and injectors are quite noisy.

So this morning I went out and started the car and the ticking noise was nonexistent.  So cold weather sure is out...

Its probably the high pressure fuel pump under the hood.
Under you engine cover there is a price of ridge foam covering it.
Front of the car, on top of the valve cover

Does anybody know where in engine bay purge valve is located, small canister that's related to vapors and emmissions,i would try to rule that out,its famous for that tick sound.

The char coal canister is not under the hood it is back by the gas tank. These DI motor are very noisy so until someone can post a clip of the sounds that are being heard its hard to say whats normal and abnormal.

I saw the video, might be belt tensioner/pulley ,belt noise.
How many miles?check for metal dust or powder around tensioner/ pulley bolt

From what I hear on video for the most part sounds normal, however I do hear a random non rhythmic tick. Is that what you are hearing as well? What it sounds like to me is the cam phasers, make sure your using a good quality and proper weight oil and motorcraft filter. I know these thing were not a big deal in the past, but in today engines these are critical items.

I use Mobil one full synthetic oil with a motorcraft filter. Would you recommend something else? I actually did not pick up on the non rythmatic tick until I watched the video again I was more worried about the clicking noise that follows a asthmatic pattern as I do not recall it ever sounding like that.

The only sound that would have me worried is the non rythmatic tick you have there. I have 40k on mine and never heard that one. I am also using full synthetic Mobil one with the motocraft  filter. I only use 94 octane since day one even with no tune. The rest sounds normal, take the sho plastic  cover off the engine and try to take the clip again. We may be able to hear it better that way.

It's funny how loud the engine is w/o the cover and the hood open.

That oil filter combination is fine. But the rest of sound as said before sounds entirely normal. Perhaps we are hearing a little piston slap, but if that wasn't a concern before. I wouldn't worry about it, perhaps your phone is able to pick up on some sounds that we wouldn't normally hear. Also cam phaser clatter is more prominent at start up and stop after a few seconds.
