To kill or be killed....

So outside of my normal, I actually ran my mouth about how fast the SHO is... To a guy with a 2002 WS6 Trans Am.

We have scheduled a date this coming sunday to run them at the local 1/8th mile track.

I had no idea what he had done to it before hand. But later discovered hes running

TR 224/224 .563 112LSA Cam
LS6 Intake
SLP Lid
Exhaust
and after the agreement bought a nice pair of DR's to throw on it.

:hmmm:

He's bringing all his buddies from work (Cadillac Dealership) To watch him blow the doors off the "Pos Ford"

Doing as much research as i could online, it seems he may best me by a wide margin or it will be a close race. (Honestly dont know much about GM vehicles never owned one or raced one)

I'll fill you guys in on the results

its either going to be  :no1: or  :cry1:

So his car doesn't sound heavily modified. I know I had raced many TA's on a quarter mile track and they all had all types of mods. What they where not sure didn't ask, they all sounded pretty nasty. But it wasn't hardly a race for me, totally smoked these guys. I have been meaning to get the video's from my neighbor for a while now and post the my neighbor said the only time they where in frame was at the tree after that they where no where to be see. Now I got a few more tricks than you, but I think you got this. 1/8mi track your AWD, ought to be a walk in the park.

I really think you will win. I launch at about 2200 RPM, and have taken the Camaro SS of about the same year a couple times on 1/8 mile. If they have the same motor, then you should be good..

The TA is a stick, think hes upgraded the clutch. It does sound nasty.

Hopefully were all making good assumptions as there is going to be quite the crowd for this showdown.

I think its officially become a Ford Vs GM grudge match.

Win or lose it will be fun, I dont normally mind losing to faster cars, its just this guy just wont shut up.....

Sounds like you need down pipes with a cut out and or meth.I hate to lose to people who talk trash like that.

I have a feeling he could have more done. They can cut some low 60 times. And certain LS1 where way under rated.  Its possible with the cam the car is at or above 400hp in a car that couuld way almost a 700 lighter. It will be close if he can drive it.

I just noticed your best 1/4 mile time.. not sure when that was ran but i know some of the light weight stock cars with drag radials did hit low 13 second runs. I think your lucky it is only 1/8 mile

I've owned several ws6 TA's and couple of SS Camaros and if the guy can drive it and launch it it will be extremely close. I ran a 13.1 all stock on my 02 SS on the 1/4 but they are not easy to launch. It will be close! Good luck and please keep us posted, I'm curious how it turns out.

Ran that the only time I drove out to the nearest 1/4 mile strip, it was 100F and right around mid day. Im sure I could have broken into the 12's with a decent DA.

I dont know if he can launch or not. He doesn't go to the track often. Think he's only had the car on the track once or twice, but he does roll race on the street.

Either way, remind him that he's racing a big 4-door family sedan and have fun.

I will definitely have fun. And I wont make any excuses if he does win, because that will just keep him going. Think I'll just say nice car and leave it at that.

I have a buddy with a '13 GT 5.0 auto with bolt ons and a bama tune, against him on DR's he gets me by about a car in the 1/4, in the 1/8th its a drivers race(whomever is off the tree first and/or has the better launch). I used that as a rough estimate of how I would do, since i figured HP and weight wise they could be close.

On those cars it's easy to roll race but not as easy off the line. I think you should pull him if he gets anything other than a perfect launch. I'm excited for you!

If you don't have much time on the track. Here some tips 1) A 1/4 tank or less of gas, 7lb per gal. 2). Stage short ,just start to have the 2nd light on. 3) Launch on the last yellow light. "STAGGING SHORT WHEN LAUNCH ON YELLOW YOU HAVE 6in ROLL BEFORE THE GREEN GO ON". 4). Weight No Spare Tire, No PP Air pump, I have gone so far to take the mats and back seats out(40lb). My best time tune only is 12.669sec 1/4mi @ 59deg!!! HERE is a 2013 5.0 Mustang @ 85 deg I ran 12.74. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Sorry but if he can drive you're going to get beat, badly.  It's an HCI LS1 so low 12's high elevens at 117-120 through the 1/4.  I think it's sad he had to go purchase DR's to run you.  Tell him no Dr's or no run, that is your only chance is if he spins.

Im pretty good at the track, i go at least 2-3 times a month when its open. No spare but I do keep the air pump (to air my tires back up when im done). My bane seems to be the inability to cut decent 60's, ive had a couple 1.7x but normally im in the 1.9x range. I blame the GY F1's, but this is a heavy car to get moving.

I dont think hes upgraded his heads, looking on his facebook it seems he bent some valves a couple months ago when his timing chain broke and installed the cam then but didnt have the $$$ for the heads so kept the stock heads, If im assuming right the stock heads are really limiting what that cam can give him. Im putting him at a high 12 in the 1/4. I think its going to be close and im hoping ill jump him hard enough on the line he panics and doesnt pedal it, that usually works against inexperienced guys with more power than me, at least it has with Cts-vs and a ZL1 i raced.

Goodluck.  Still a "cam only" LS1 are good for low 12's if he can drive.  I've known many LS1's to run mid 12's with free mods and full exhaust on stock rubber.  Really is going to depend on his driving.  What track are you guys running at?  Burleson, I'm guessing Kennedale(if its still open), or Denton.  Hopefully prep is poor.

yep Kennedale, and prep there varies greatly ive seen, if no event for the outlaws or anything, they hardly prep at all it seems, which could be in my favor since its just a TnT night
