Towing with the SHO

I know that there are a few people out there that tow with their SHO/Flex, as I have seen pictures. But how does the car handle the weight? Transmission/AWD strain? I found a nice Curt hitch made for the Taurus at a good price. I'd mainly use it for a bike rack and may tow a small uhaul when I more next year.

You should be fine. As long as it's kept to a reasonable weight, both on the hitch and the trailer. If you're towing a 1000lb uhaul, you'll be adding some strain, but as long as you're not going WOT or going cross country with a trailer it shouldn't ever be a problem. If you haul it a lot just increase fluid changing intervals, especially ptu + transmission fluid.

Well, how about this:

A 9,000lb Airstream? Ha
Not a good idea!
Though I do remember an article 4+ years ago of a guy towing a smaller airstream with his new SHO. Can't find it now, maybe it didn't turn out well.

Its very simple measure,go thru your manuel under towing capacity, configurations or download it,the best part is that your not tuned which is a plus and surely not recommended while tuned, check fluids and possibly using sport mode will benefit you,its all good.Z.

Definately wouldn't do that lol. 1.5k lbs tops I would think. I would mainly use it for my bike rack so I don't have to put my bike in the trunk and fold the seats down, pita. I'm sure it could tow my little 750lb skiff 5 miles down the road just fine. The engine definately has the power to pull, I guess the drive line can't handle the stress. If I ever did tune, maybe in the near future, I'd go back to stock to stop me from drag racing every pickup truck between the lights with a trailer on the back haha.

Also if you tune, you can have them give you a towing tune. It'll just modify shift points and power to best suite towing. I know Torrie at Unleashed would probably do this for you if you asked. Idk about Livernoise but I'm sure if you ask nicely :P

Livernois set me up with a towing tune, do not tow with performance tune or you risk failures.  Tow a 750lb Harley Sportster about once a year when I can't get the darn thing started.  Trailer is about 250lb, small 5x8 single axel.  I baby it while towing.....
I can never figure out the darn verification letters and sound does not work on iPad.
Curt hitch and wiring harness, pretty easy install.
