2013 LED Tail Light Issue

I was driving behind my wife, she was in the SHO, the other day and noticed a small area of the LED tail lights that were out.  Once we got home I got a closer look and sure enough there are 3 LED's out in a row.  Has anyone else had this issue?  Can these be replaced individually or are they serviceable at all?  When I look at the diagrams on Fordpart.com I don't see any LED bulbs or strips, just the inner and outer tail light assemblies.  That would turn out to be an expensive light bulb change but it is bugging the *&#@ out of me the way they are now.  If they can't easily and cheaply be changed out my concern is Ford will claim this is a normal wear and tear item and not cover it under warranty, especially since bulbs aren't covered anyway.  I haven't called the dealership on this yet as I wanted to get some more information first.

Since the assemblies have to be replaced, this should be covered under your B2B warranty.  Even if just the bulbs could be replaced, that could point to a faulty bulb or faulty wiring (circuit board) or faulty socket.  Still warranteeable (sp?).

Welcome to EBPF Bigjht!

Don't know when you bought your ride... If you could put the year ear and model in your signature will help you get better advice more quickly.

But if you ran the tail lights continuously for 10,000 hrs (average LED  expected life) they would last over 416 days!.. I would argue premature failure/defect.
I believe the LEDs are integral to the tail light lens.  Manual says to have dealer fix it if they quit and no one lists a bulb.

I agree, I would have it back at the dealer ASAP.  Since these are very expensive lights, I would let them worry about it and if they give you any grief, contact Ford.

Thanks everyone for the replies, those were pretty much my thoughts as well.  I'll give them a call next week.

Thanks for the welcome.  I've actually been on here for some time, just haven't posted or really surfed the forums in a while.  Things seemed to slow down as far as performance mods went with the SHO without doing extensive changes so I guess I lost interest for a while.  I recently got my truck though and it's jump started the bug again so now I have 2 EB platforms to work with.

Boost Brothers!  Possible to post a side-by-side pic?  While the F150 EB certainly has many more available mods, the SHO is not too far behind with tunes, CAI, hotpipes, bigger turbos, downpipes, catbacks, coilovers, big brake kits already available.  Hopefully an aux fuel mod will be available soon as well.

This will be covered under bumper to bumper warranty.    .... there is no way to replace the led's.

Even used one's on ebay that are listed with no cracks or scratches are $200 or more for the outside assy.  $100 or so for trunk lid side.

tascaparts has all the SHO oem parts for a good price when i was trying to price out the conversion into a 2010. the innner and outer assemblies were around 300 i think .
I got stuck trying to figure out what other parts i have to order with trunklid and what could stay on the 2010.

The dealership had to take a picture of it and send it off to be approved, which it was. They have one on order now.

Ford doesn't trust that dealer very much?  What they should have done was just ask for the bad one back so they could investigate what the problem was.

I've heard of that from quite a few dealerships recently. Maybe it's a regional thing but Ford seems to be scrutinizing warranty claims more. They still may look in to the bad one.

Really ?  !  You got to be kidding me .... sounds like a flaky service dept .

They have actually been a very good service dept. I have seen numerous instances both in person and read online where many dealerships are doing this now.

I guess that as long as they take care of you that is all that matters !

A while back ( 3 or 4 months ) ago  I ended up with a cracked lens , someone backed into it is my guess and I ordered a MINT used passenger side trunk lid portion for $102.00 with shipping  off of Ebay. It was super easy to replace .

Nope, just Ford trying to protect itself from fraudulent dealerships.

Ive heard of this from the taillight chrome debacle. Always pending approval.

Actually I understand that all U.S. warranty claims are actually approved by Ford.. A friend is the service manager at a local dealership... he is lamenting this since Ford apparently has the lowest warranty return rate of U.S manufacturers, and that's a lot of his employees pay and justification for adequate numbers of mechanics.
