Brake Question - Pulsating @ 41k Miles

Hey guys (and gals)!

Over the last several weeks I've noticed that my brakes pulsate quite bad.  I've got nearly 41k on the (2011) SHO, so I'm uncertain if it's worthy of turning the rotors or just getting something new.

I have to be honest, I haven't had a chance to see how much life is left on my pads, and I'm honestly not sure what to expect out of factory brakes.  I know my G8 is near end of life on the pads at 26k, so I'm clueless here.

So the question is, is it worth turning the rotors, or should I invest into something new?  I know a warped rotor is always warped (at least I hope it's the rotor and not the caliper) and the pulsating can come back, which brings me to the "Is it worth turning 41k rotors?" question.  I honestly am somewhat hard on my brakes from time-to-time, so I would need something that's actually quality.  I drive 20 miles on 65MPH roads, and with the idiots on the road sudden stops on the freeway are common.  I <3 rollercoaster rides on my way home!!  LOL!  Not to mention, some off ramps are rather short.

If you recommend new brakes, I'd rather not invest into something super expensive, but quite honestly, brakes and tires are an item that I will NOT cheap out on... it's for my safety (and others around me) for Pete's sake!

Thanks!!

I replaced rotors and pads on mine at around 50K. Anything that is not stock is a huge upgrade. I would just buy new, and not try turning the old ones.

There are a ton of discussions on here about brakes. Probably about 100 different combinations!!

I kind of figured it wouldn't be worth it, but I had to get opinions before making that decision.  I'll definitely be reading the threads more closely soon.  It drives me nuts when they pulsate at high speeds, but they're fine under like 45mph.  (Fine as in I hardly even feel any pulsing).

I heard power stop were ok, cheap, look ok, and perform ok...TSE big brake kit outrageous at almost 5k

Oh I definitely wouldn't want to drop $5k on brakes.  I'd rather invest that sort of cash into a maggie for the G8.  LOL!

I bought Hawk pads. They were great for about a year, then i got some squeaking. I took them off to clean and found that the pad was actually about 1mm bigger than the rotor. There is a lip on the top of the pad now, so they are ruined and I have to buy some new pads.

Neglected proper wheel balance can add additional issues with the brakes pulsating and wear out your front end down the road.

Pulsation is the result of improperly and/or over torqued wheel lugs.

I say just replace the rotors, make certain to torque to spec, seat the new pads and be done with it. Never been a big fan of turning rotors.

Ordered all of my EBC parts last week, finally!  I couldn't fathom spending $600 on brakes immediately, but I had to bite the bullet before it gets too cold outside.  I grabbed the EBC sport slotted rotors and redstuff pads.

Quick question regarding the caliper.  In terms of pushing in the piston, do these just compress right back in, or are they the kind that need to twist to compress?  I've got a C-Clamp if it's just the ones that push in, but I'll have to rent the tool if it's the other type.  Or is it a mix of both?

Regarding painting, I'll probably look at doing that next spring/summer while it is warm enough outside.  I have to find a color that matches Kona Blue well.  Perhaps black will be it?

Thanks guys!  I had to be sure that I had the right set of tools before I start ripping the brakes apart.  :)

Sweet!  Thanks!  $20 isn't bad at all.  Will you have more than enough for the 4 calipers like they claim?  My reason for not doing it now is just because it's too cool out.  Our highs in WI have been only hitting in the mid to upper 50s or the rare 60.  I'd absolutely love to do this, though, because the stock look is trash.

You will have enough to do two cars like i did and still have some leftover, just make sure to clean the calipers good, then apply the paint, good luck.

Mmmm.... freshly arrived yesterday and they look so nice!  I ordered from a 3rd party on Amazon and they came from EBC themselves.  Saved a TON of cash going this route.

Those look like some heavy duty rotors dude, make sure to follow the bedding procedure so they break in gradually for first couple of hunded miles and good luck.

ZSHO is correct. Follow the bedding process to the T.
Also there will be ALOT of break dust until the break in coating wears off.
