CAI/Short Ram

The air intake for the original filter box that funnels air towards your filter is blocked by the K & N heat shield, so no cool air from grille area is getting to your filter.

The K&N shield has a scoop that works..even better with my homemade grill.

Great that it has a scoop/diverter.  Couldn't see it in pix.  Should work to keep IAT lower and heat sink down.

When I made my CAI with the RotoFab J pipe, I got free as they replaced both G8 J pipes due to some cracking, there were none available, other than Hennessey.  I have around $80. in mine.  Best part is it works better than it looks.  Not saying it adds HP, but intake air is cooler than stock.

Have had K & N systems on several cars.  Always happy with them.  Never any issues with oiled filters.

Thanks!.... I see how the heat shield is in now.  How much of the hood rubber gasket did you remove?

I'll be back shortly with a pic.

You bet, Tom.  You'll see the mounting pins on each side with just the hole (pin removed) in the middle.

Should all be the same for the 10-12.  I'm sure there is somebody here with a 10 that has one.  Hopefully, they will chime in.

I had a Typhoon on my 2012 Limited but I took it out.  I felt that the noise was too much for a more luxury oriented car.  But now with the SHO, I'm thinking I'd like it.  The "oiled" part doesn't bother me.  I've heard the horror stories but I've had K&Ns on at least a dozen cars.

Tod-I know you are driving a Lincoln and have said you may someday get tired of the noise but what would you think of the Typhoon in a SHO?

Well, I am not tired of it yet.  And for an SHO, it seems even more fitting.  Just to be clear on my position, no idea what gains are positive or negative - I have it for the audible and visual "improvements"  The sound is just awesome to me, though I may posssibly tire of it someday, in which case I just put the stock unit back in with my K&N drop in.  In an SHO, I think the sound would be even more welcome due to the generally sportier nature of the car.

And for oiled/non oiled - I agree.  I have used K&N oiled products (drop ins) for 20 years with no issues.  I just find that cleaning them and properly oiling them is a messy job.  I like the non oiled in the Airaid for that reason only.  BUT, the K&N only take about 15 minutes to clean and oil and only has to be cleaned once a year (or less), so take my whining with a grain of salt. LOL

And yes, if you are light on the throttle, like if passengers are in the car, it sounds pretty much normal.  On the gas hard though, it sounds like a mean air sucking machine and the BOV noise when you let off is music to my ears.  It's just fun.

Here is one on TSS's  2010 MKS

I find it so hard to believe there isn't a power difference when adding any CAI unless the restriction is in the tubes not the filter area itself. The F-150 systems seem to pick up really good power.

I saw that fastlane has a complete system that claims 20hp

The "saxophone" after the air box and the intake in front of it are both restrictive.  K&N, AirAid, and Hennessey all have dynes claiming 9-25WHP improvements.  We have actually seen dyne drops with some in the SHO and Flex.

A new dual intake CAI option is being developed by 4DR and the crew at Black Market Racing using my car…. There will be pre and post dynos.
