The air intake for the original filter box that funnels air towards your filter is blocked by the K & N heat shield, so no cool air from grille area is getting to your filter.

I felt that the noise was too much for a more luxury oriented car. But now with the SHO, I'm thinking I'd like it. The "oiled" part doesn't bother me. I've heard the horror stories but I've had K&Ns on at least a dozen cars.
Tod-I know you are driving a Lincoln and have said you may someday get tired of the noise but what would you think of the Typhoon in a SHO?
Well, I am not tired of it yet. And for an SHO, it seems even more fitting. Just to be clear on my position, no idea what gains are positive or negative - I have it for the audible and visual "improvements" The sound is just awesome to me, though I may posssibly tire of it someday, in which case I just put the stock unit back in with my K&N drop in. In an SHO, I think the sound would be even more welcome due to the generally sportier nature of the car.
And for oiled/non oiled - I agree. I have used K&N oiled products (drop ins) for 20 years with no issues. I just find that cleaning them and properly oiling them is a messy job. I like the non oiled in the Airaid for that reason only. BUT, the K&N only take about 15 minutes to clean and oil and only has to be cleaned once a year (or less), so take my whining with a grain of salt. LOL
And yes, if you are light on the throttle, like if passengers are in the car, it sounds pretty much normal. On the gas hard though, it sounds like a mean air sucking machine and the BOV noise when you let off is music to my ears. It's just fun.

I saw that fastlane has a complete system that claims 20hp
