I think the Taurus is going to be under sold and fade in sales.  I hope the 2016 changes things, but as a fleet vehicle, I hear the police are changing to the utility (explorer) now because of space.
Not too sure about that.  I'm seeing more Taurus cruisers lately and have yet to see the new Explorer as a cruiser.  I believe that we are ordering 3 Taurus with the ecoboost in a few months.
Here in Atlanta they went with Taurus for supervisors about year ago and there cars are dark blue. I have been mistaking more than ones or twice for them. LOL  Now they are starting to get the patrol cars. The 1st big department to get them here. There are a lot of small department that have them here. But new thing of interests the 4th biggest department got the chevy Caprice a year 1 1/2 ago now they just got Taurus a month ago.

There are several reasons why.  As good as many other offerings from the big 3 may be the other 2 are chasing Ford a bit in the newer engine technologies. I believe Ford is either sandbagging due to this or developing very cautiously (which is OK with me).

Here's a link showing a lot of the differences with the consumer SHO and the police interceptor.  Seems like it is a proving ground for many of the things we have said we want.

If you want to explore the official Ford Police Interceptor Cars site it's here:

yes, the EB Interceptor is a better performing vehicle than either the RWD Charger Pursuit or RWD Chevy PPV.  Michigan and California's annual State Police testing has shown this over and over again.
(although 2013 testing finally handed Dodge the average road-course lap time victory, but that was for its new AWD system Chrger-Pursuit not the RWD one; the Interceptor was still the fastest 0-60)

I've used this info constantly to thwart the prevailing yet false meme that RWD is always better than FWD or FWD (transverse) based AWD, on various other automotive forums!!!

and yes, of course the manufacturers use the information and engineering on the police cars for their civilian counterparts.  the SHO Track pack was heavily influenced and essentially developed off of the Interceptor program, similar can be said for the Charger.  its a little different with Chevy and their new SS, as the Chevy PPV police car is quite simialr in platform as the SS (as its Holden derived like the Camaro) but has a much weaker engine and older suspension bits.

IDK if some of you all have noticed, but the SHO is rather routinely snubbed by other auto enthusiasts and even by certain auto publications vs its competition (mainly the Charger RT, the SS is all new).  I've seen it be called a FWD-mommy mobile, slow brick, etc.  Of course this is a rather ignorant reaction!  I use the police sedan testing, where the Interceptor (SHO) routinely defeats the RWD Pursuit (Charger RT) and PPV to show them how wrong they are; but of course logic doesn't work with Neanderthals!

Its strange the cops here have 3.7 litre flex fuel engines. they didnt choose the ecoboost for some reason.
Heres a random thought but does anyone know where you can buy crate engines. I want to buy one of those 1.0 ecoboost and throw it in something light.

IDK about the availability of a 1.0 EB Crate... It is only recently that any EBs were available.... but the explanation given in a complete review by an active duty officer was money..... and the performance is improved over the civilian 3.7 in the interceptor

I was out to night and talked to one of Cobb county Sheriff (not Cobb Police) and ask him if he knew why cobb police (after year & 1/2) of the Chevy. Why did they just get the Taurus? He said the Chevy were falling apart!! So they are try some Ford for maintains before ordering more replacement unit for retiring VIK's.

i wish i could track my car they bulldozed the only one in my city there so any racing up here they would rather people do it in industrial parks..

I want to get on road course this spring to see how she handles. I did run her at track and best I pulled is in my signature.

I'm at 370awhp with my mods.

The car is fun, but it's heavy as hell. I got it for the luxury, engine, awd, and the fact it's rare here.

Sent from my mobile, I think.

I have had mine on the track twice..... its kind of impressive and handles rather quite well. I have already went through a set of tires and only have 24k to show for it :)  I have never used track mode I have, I have only used sport mode.... as I learn the car will probably venture to track mode.  I have gotten the car to slide in sport mode, actually its not to hard once the f1's grease out....

Talked to a cop today he said he loves the AWD on his taurus 3.7L and the engine. it is still a pretty quick car with just that. Ive sort of found you gotta feel the awd out pretty good to get any traction. Its nothing close to 4x4 in the snow though i still get stuck occasionally if packed snow softens up enough the weight of the car really screws you over.(although my mxv4 i think are the original tires of the vehicle so there at like half tread).
Its crazy when theres black ice and i can spin all 4 tires on a highway at 90 km just by getting some torque down really surprised me.

SORRY about the bad vid but here I'm running a 56sec run (as a rookie in G-Class) while a Vett in SP-CLASS ran 49sec!!!!!! NOT BAD FOR OUR SNOW PLOW!!!!! 2011 SHO VS SCCA AUTOCROSS my 1st SCCA auto-x

Im not really happy with how the AWD performs in icy/snow conditions its alot better then just FWD but i think when i compare to to volvo/audi/subaru It just doesnt seem to perform as good. When i looked into it i saw we had the same AWD as volvo/audi (haldex). I came upon this review and was surprised how low they thought of it.
"Ford Taurus SHO EcoBoost

MSRP: $38,155
Engine: 3.5L DOHC 24v V6, DI, Twin Turbocharged 365bhp/350lb-ft
Transmission: 6-speed automatic
Front Differential: Open, electronic brake lock
Center Differential: none.
Rear Differential: Open, electronic brake lock.

My experience with the AWD setup on the SHO is… less than impressive.  Perhaps the less-powerful naturally aspirate Taurus doesn’t have the same issues.  But the twin-turbo SHO exhibits noticeable torque steer on heavy throttle input while cornering, somewhat like an old Turbo Saab – something AWD cars shouldn’t do.  There’s no center differential; instead the SHO uses a clutch-type transfer case built into the transmission to regulate front-to-rear power distribution.  It’s similar in design to Honda’s RT4WD, and functionally to Haldex, while not working as well as either.  Sure, it prevents the SHO from nuking it’s tires to death with 350lb-ft of torque at 1,500rpm, but it leaves a lot to be desired in the snow.

Pros: Well, none of the rampant wheelspin you’d have with FWD
Cons: Doesn’t work very well."

Im really amazed at the subaru's AWD I knew they had the best but after looking at some tests on youtube im really impressed. If only they had a car i felt comfortable in.

I've learned to accept that the car is just naturally a FWD with a little butt action.

If asked I will continue to say that the AWD system on the Subi is way better.

Didn't say what tires were in play.  Should be much better with A/S than summer tires.

that is true i dont have snow tires on I got the stock michelins they dont really got that great of tread. I think i might snag a set of blizzaks

Having driven different AWD vehicles I'm going to disagree with all of the hatin going on in this thread.

I find the SHO to be quite competent in virtually any condition I've thrown at it, it's never misbehaved.

I think it's well balanced and moves power exactly as I would expect.

I love it on drive pavement the ability to move 100 percent of the power to the back wheels is amazing. I just was surprised i could get all 4 tires spinning without the tires like buried whatsoever i probably was just caught on a weird hump of ice.

I can see how it could be seen as hate but Im just elitist. Im a big ford guy it angers me if it doesnt have something to beat everyone lol
