Improving/increasing Turbo sound

Quite honestly, I hear a whine. But it don't sound like a turbo to me, sounds like drive train gear whine.

You are right, you do hear a whine.  Which is why I said it's like comparing apples to potatoes.  It's still so quiet in the Ecoboost.

Not drive train gear noise you are hearing though!

my grand national back in the day sounded like a freaking jet spooling up. loved that sound.

my sho is dead quiet. but I have heard that with a k&n setup, you could hear the turbos well.

I confirm that my K&N intake produces more turbos and blow off valve sounds over stock.

Sounds a lot like my 04 GTP used to... ;)

I had the airaid cai on my car because I liked its design over that of the K&N which didn't seem "cold" at all. I didn't really believe there would be any difference in the sound of the two.  Unhappy with the barely audible sound I decided to try the K&N and it was a HUGE difference.

Like I said, I just have the stock box with the K&N panel.  It does have a better sound than the stock panel but, yeah no real turbo sound.  That's the way I'm gonna stay though.  Cold air from under the front of the hood into a closed box.  These 3.5's generate a lot of heat!  That's why I took off my engine cover for good.  I would love to hear the whine like my T-Bird SC had.  I don't know because I haven't taken it out but that sound pointing fitting doesn't really seem to do too much.

I like the quite of the sho you can talk to the person next to you while mashing the go pedel. my mazda gets annoying after a while, fun but annoying.

That sounded like a supercharger

I wonder if the Airaid box could be modified to keep it's better breathing, but adopt the cool air properties of the stock box.  Why not close off the Airaid box top with a sealed lid or cover (have to make it clear so the pretty filter is still visible), then seal the front CAI opening  (like the OE box does) with a soft gasket material so it can't leak hot engine compartment air where it meets the factory air opening in the front compartment wall.  Make it draw exclusively from outside the compartment.  For good measure the factory opening might be enlargeable or a supplemental air tube could be provided for even more air from the upstream side of the radiator. In short make the Airaid draw air from the same air source (upstream of the radiator) as the factory box...only with enhanced Airaid breathing and no Airaid leaks.  Of course the easy way is to drop a K&N panel into the stock box, and maybe that's really good enough, but I love the thought of the free breathing Airaid.  On another note,  I also wonder if the reason for he convoluted way the airbox feeds the turbos through that Y plumbing is to keep the tube lengths similar for both banks. If it's not for that, ..... I don't have a clue.

Im gona say the plumbing has alot to do with it.

Droping in the k&n filter would likely still perform just as well as what you mentioned

RedRocket, was your old car by change a GTP?  I had one and sold it for my G8 GT...now I want another one!!  That L67/L32 platform was awesome and the sound is quite addicting!!

It was/is.  Dealer offered me 3k for a 2003 Grand Prix GTP with 83,000 miles.  I decided it's worth more sitting here on the street as my spare car then to just give it away!

I thought so....what mods?

It sounded stock(ish). That was actually my previous car as well (97 GTP) and she is sitting in my driveway right now. I'm just finishing up fixing some things (LIM gasket, valve cover gaskets, etc) and planning on selling it after. However, I have to take it out for a test drive or 2 or 3 afterwards and I'm hoping I don't miss it and talk myself into keeping it haha. Mods are a basic 3.4 pulley set up (intake, exhaust, tune, etc., ran about 14 flat back in the day). Fun car.

Its currently running a 3.2 pullet, been as low as 2.9.  Rockers, WBS intercooler, TOG headers, LS6 springs, 3' dp and exhaust until the split and then 2.5 to borla mufflers.  Lots of the normal little odds and ends as well as DHP tuner.

IIRC that videos was post rockers but pre intercooler.

Lots of past Gtp owners here.  I had three; highly modified coupe, Gtx sedan, and a Regal Gsx.  Loved those cars but not their torque steer.  Probably be a great run for my Sho now, best I ran was 12.7's.

That's cool guys, mine had the basic mods...3.4 pulley, FWI, exhaust, tune, etc.  I really want another one now that they are cheap just to play with. 8)

Sorry for pulling up a slightly old thread but I'm going to remove the turbonators and the ecoboost "diaper" on my F150 this weekend and see how I like it.
