Lowering intake temps.. ?

I've been giving the whole IAT issue some thought as of late too.
One question for AJP- Is it possible to have a tune that keeps the fans on after the key is off? or possibly with accessory on?

In my previous platform i had a track tune that would keep the fans on full speed for 5 minutes after you turn the key off if the coolant temps were over a certain temp.

If this could be done you could at least keep some air moving when your sitting in the staging lanes and evacuate some hot air preventing heat soak a little.

Yes it is possible when the car in accessory mode. The LMS race tune is setup to do this, however most people ask to turn it off because for a daily driven tune, those fans are LOUD.

hmmm are there not two fan speeds?  5 minutes of low speed fan with the car off would not be horrible?    interesting thought?

HHmm....The way I see it in the tune is with key in the on position the fan should stay on according to the coolant temp vs ambient temps....So if the key is on it will try to maintain coolant temps as if it was running....I'm not sure about the accessory position.

If I would set the fan control to come on at an earlier temp for track use then they would run all the time and I don't think that's what you want...Like setting them to come on at 150 degrees coolant  then when turn the key on the fans would run until the coolant dropped to 150 but then when the car is on coolant would always be above that and the fans would never shut off...The fans are not high and low speed...It's variable and runs at a percentage that you set of max speed for things like coolant temp, ambient temps, trans oil temp and A/C head pressure.

as in key on and running? i've never felt my fans running at any point other than while it's running. ideally you'd want to not have the car running while sitting in the staging lanes but maintain fan operation.

I dont see anything that addresses key position but if its in the on position all the sensors should be running and if the coolant temps are at a temp that requires the fans to run then i dont see why they wont

Dunno... the original race tune LMS sent me had the fan running at full bore all the time...

that would annoy me,  but only in daily driving.  if it was a menu option you could flick back off later it without a full flash would be neat..

The SCT GTX will allegedly give user level control of the fans...

does the aero force gauge do the same? i know it does for some cars. not sure about the ecoboost

Since we are talking about race and staging per say.

The manual fan switch idea with an ice water/alcohol spray system spraying chilled water over the intercooler.

I'm at E45 now with a preliminary log showing strong rail pressure.....

Stay tuned....

JESUS.  I just loaded torries e30 tune...going to log and see how it goes.  Once we have it finalized, on to AJP 8)

Does anyone have good pictures of the AC/HE/Radiator stack with the bumper off, and/or out of the SHO?  I am curious as to dimensions/layout etc and figure one of your mad scientists has to have pictures with the bumper off.

I am sure ZSO or StealBlue have one handy now LOL.  Doesn't bpd's writeup in the HOWTO section have one as well?

I gave it some thought.  if we re-order the AC condenser with the heat extractor you will still get tons of waste heat transfer from the AC condenser itself.

here's some pics when I replaced my radiator and intercooler as well as a pic with it all removed. The intercooler clips onto the radiator and it all goes in as one unit .I took a couple quick measurements and they literally are sandwiched together.

bpd's thread shows drivers side, I was after the drivers side pictures.  Z's picts did help though!

I will probably need to open mine up to take measurements and such to see if my hair brained ideas will work.

THanks guys!

So there is room under the bumper support for a bigger IC... the issue is going to be the tubing.... I checked it out while I had everything undone.... it would require quite a bit of custom work to get it to work...

IMHO... using meth or some water/meth to cool the charge is easier...

yeah there's almost no clearance to route a 2.5-3" diameter tube from in front of the bumper support to inside the engine bay to the throttle body.
