Possible bad hub?

So yesterday I decided to take a ride with all the windows down, get home and pull in the driveway and I turn the wheel ever so slightly and I hear a metal "tinging" sound when I turn the wheel left and right. Now from what I'm reading this is a possible bad hub or thrust washer?  It's a '14 with PP and 20k on the odo. Am I right to assume that's what it is?

Generally the hub is described as a clicking... But it's still very suspicious. Does it make the sound when you're sitting still? Can you localize it to on side or the other?

I had mine replaced twice under warranty, first time they replaced both the thrust washers and the hubs(wheel bearings)the second time they only replaced the wheel hubs, mostly affected are the PP SHO,any codes set?  Z

Thanks for the reply fellas!
It does make the sound when sitting still. No codes thankfully but is there a sensor for it for it to throw a code?

The best way I can describe the sound is like taking a piece of metal and lightly tapping it agains another piece of metal. Only happens when I turn the wheel left or right ever so slightly.

Probably wheel hub.  My right one was replaced twice.  It made noise when sitting still and turning wheel just like you described.  My thrust washers had been replaced first.  Those only made noise when accelerating after switching from drive to reverse vise versa.

Guess I'll have to make an appointment to have it diagnosed and taken care of.  For you guys that have had the hubs/washers changed was the service department aware of the issue and figured it out quick or did you have to point them to the forum to get a better understanding about it.  I know that they will have to reproduce the problem before anything gets done but I'm just trying to see if I need to get a printout of something before taking it into service.  Thanks in advance.

here is a TSB on this issue, please mention it to your service advisor when making the appt and keep us updated.  Z

There actually well aware of the problem but unfortunetly there seems to be no permanent fix to the issue, unless your out of warranty and maybe the Timken HD hubs might be a better option but still cannot be validated.  Z

Thanks Z!  Ill keep this updated on the findings and the process/experience as to further educate our community on possible causes, solutions, and resolutions.

Just replaced both fronts wheel bearings on my '12.  Got MOOG bearings, only thing that blew my mind was the 258ft/lbs needed to torque the axle nut, ouch.  The MOOG has a 3 year warranty on them too.

Not to hijack this thread but when I first start my car it makes a clicking noise about four times , kinda loud but not metallic either. Sounds like it's something in the dashboard on the passengers side. Like it's cycling through something and doesn't happen again until the next time I start the car.

I've had my hubs replaced 3 times so far. Finally took it to a different dealer. They replaced the hubs again, but also replaced the outer tie rods, the front shafts and new washers as per the tsb. Noise is gone and so far has not returned! Their guess way that one of the other parts was contributing to the hubs going bad all the time. Just my 2 cents.
