PTU fluid change

It's one of the most honest advertising things ever. Life time filled or filled for life How ever you wanna phrase it is completely true.  The fluid will last until the part fails 😈😱.  they just forgot to mention not changing the fluid is the cause of the part failure

It's shifting smoother than it ever has before, even when brand new and it was not tuned, that being said it just doesn't feel quite right. Doing some casual driving and some pulls here and there to try and get a proper feel, just seems like it has less power if that makes any sense? Idk maybe it's because I was so used to really feeling every shift point that now that it feels so smooth I'm just not noticing it.

Ny dealer refused to do it... because they did once and then the PTU failed... and Ford said it was their maintenance that caused the failure and stuck them with the bill.

No mention of reprogramming. I reverted it back to stock and had the 2 bar back in when I took it to them. I tuned it and returned the 3 bar when I got it back. I'll drive her more this week and see what's up

Well so far so good, originally had a few hiccups but I think its all worked out now. She's smooth as butter so far. With the availability of 93 octane (finally one station) I'm thinking I may have a even better time at the strip this year

I haven't made any passes yet but would like to try it at least once for fun.  I have 100's of passes on other cars but only other AWD 'car' I've run was my TT V10 Touareg. 15.20's wasn't super fast but the thing was almost 6000lbs.

Did you put up a timeslip somewhere I missed?  Just curious.  Still only one 12.XX second ESport in the land right(Livernois Car)?

Sorry for the late post guys. Here's pics of my fluids. The large jug was from my RDU and the gatorade bottle was from the PTU. Car had about 56k on the clock. To my knowledge, nothing was EVER changed...

RDU

PTU

That PTU fluid looks great compared to mine.

I must say, I almost soiled myself when he showed me my PTU fluid compared to some of what everyone else has had (Gray paste....)

Wow. Your ptu oil looks amazing compared to the tar like sludge i  had in mine.

I'm beginning to think mine was under filled from the factory and it just cooked the life out of it, and this was at 15k.

I purchased mine 20k miles ago CPO.... part of me thinks it could have been changed at the 36k mark? i need to double check the full service records the dealership gave me when i purchased the car.

Mine looked really good at 50,000, too.  I wonder if part of the issue has been that some were simply not filled appropriately to begin with.  I had my car perfectly level and when I removed the plug, some of the fluid ran out - so I know it was full.  My car has been tuned for a couple of years and while I don't beat on it everyday, the accelerator pedal definitely has a close and personal relationship with the floor carpet.

^Lol! Great way of putting it.

I've seen it hypothesized here before, perhaps it's been a fill quantity issue all along.

I remember reading some threads here regarding a burning odor when the vehicle was pressed up to 100 MPH, or beyond, an issue which my SHO still suffers from. I think there was perhaps a TSB issued for Explorers regarding thst issue? Does the Explorer use a similar AWD system? Could it be the under filled gear oil is cooking under the high friction, and the foil burning odor is escaping from the PTU vent and into the cockpit?

Called the local ford dealership and spoke with service advisor to change ptu fluid .... they quoted me $800 because they have to remove ptu . Wt* ?
