Questions about cutout for aftermarket DP / stock exhaust

Couple things:
If you're worried about another 8' of 2.5" pipe I wouldn't worry about that being enough back pressure to cause any issues.
Do some research on the electric cutouts, they are horrible, rattle and die it's not a good scenario.
PPE has joined and I'm sure he'll way in soon. I saw the dynos and it looks great, especially considering it's an NA car, we'll pick up a ton more power than they will.
Bad thing is the SHO would be different from Flex and different from the Explorer Sport :(
I can personally speak that electric cutouts do not rattle and die. I have run them through all four seasons in the Northeast without issue. If you stick with either QTP or DMH you are getting the best products out there and are guaranteed a long life with great manufacturer support if something happens to go wrong.

"BTW, if you think about it, it should be cheaper than the cutout option (pipes around $1500 and $400 for the cutout)"
I have been quoted $800 to do a complete custom 2.5" exhaust and then add in $400 for the electronic cutouts. So for $1,200 I think you would end up with the best exhaust option out there.

I was talking about my custom pipe I had made the the boost activated cutout that I had made. As far as the electric cutouts rattling I had them and they rattled HORRIBLY and if you google cutout rattles you'll find TONS of people have that issue as well so I wasn't the only one. Some guys have great luck with them but I couldn't stand the sound it made at idle, sounded like a rattly exhaust leak.

Good discussion! Anyone from PPE or with the Lexus exhaust 4DR mentioned earlier have an idea about cost of that system for the SHO? TIA.
I wasn't able to find it on their website.

4DR, if you need he cutout back for some development time, let me know.

FoMoCoSho…. What has been your experience with it?

… Great to know that the Flex and SHO could both use the one 4DR developed

I was just going to email you and ask for it back to develop a copy at a reduced cost.
That would be AWESOME!
Talked to Paul $2600 for a catback dual mode exhaust like the Lexus, if I have the cutout we might be able to develop a cat back exhaust that incorporates the valve instead of the resonator with some "semi quiet" mufflers for well under that price.
Let's see what we can do!

  :clap2: Yeee-Haw!!  :please:

I'm sure you can beat $2600... and if not, the original cut out with one more control would still be great and probably <$2000 installed.

I've been PMing with Paul from PPE... They have a couple of options for the control I talked about in earlier posts already available.. Paul's PM is copied below.  I like the ISF control... get both demand and on/off.  It will be a new fab, so a group will help control price.  I'm sure 4DR has some great ideas too, and if FoMoCoSHO get the valve to him so that the CAD work is mostly done it will also help A LOT.  The muffler option is a consideration, but going with a proven cutout avoids a lot of work and cost.  Plus the stock exhaust note is preserved (and so predictably open to mods and other catbacks)... to keep you wife or the police smiling!

...FoMoCoSHO... can I help with postage/shipping?... seriously!

PPE/Paul's PM:
Hey Tom,

We use a similar bleed off solenoid on our vacuum operated units to allow us to open and close on demand.  Our ISF version has a throttle position switch that opens the valves at 50%+ throttle, then closes when you let off).  We should be able to make something to go with the cutout version.

No we don't have anyone by that name working here.

Best Regards,
Paul

IDK MaC......

I've always known I'm the odd ball in my agency, but I tend to smile when an exhaust is NOT quiet.

So open up them cutouts anytime you (or any others) blast past me & you'll be sure to plaster a big 'ol cheesy, Cheshire catlike grin on my ugly mug.

LOL!  In general I agree… plan on an adjustable CO that is boost activated and boost activation is adjustable so I can have quiet in normal or mildly spirited driving, but an open cutout at 2/3 throttle and up… simple, no switches, set and forget!

Cutout on way!

VERY good to hear (see, LOL).

Thanks FoMoCoSHO!

PM me and I'll PayPal you some cash to
Help cover shipping.

That would be great as I'm still recovering from my UPS colonoscopy, LOL!

My packaging wasn't up to par for insurance so packing, shipping, and insurance for a $1400.00 declared value....

$79.57

But, I figure it was absolutely necessary for a one of a kind item that cannot be replaced easily.

Mike will have it Tuesday.

Couple of real troopers there!  Thanks for advancing the platform!
