Re: Plasti-Dipped the peeling chrome

I like the grill Bigfoot. I did my badges on the back, and ended up peeling it off. Just a personal preference, but I liked the silver badges better. When I have time, I am going to do just the gray bars on the grill, and leave the chrome around the outside.

I'm going to be doing the same things soon. I just picked up my Plasti-Dip!

Peeling taillight chrome, and silver part of the grill (not chrome)

I too have tuxedo black.

I just re-did my TAURUS and SHO badges yesterday. I had a few nicks, so I figured i would mask everything and more some more coats on. Pretty soon I will have to do my tail lights, so I will take a bunch of photos and post them up as a sort of how-to.
I'm curious how you masked something as detailed as the TAURUS letters on the trunk. I'd be tempted to try blacking out all the chrome on the trunk.

Larry, go check out some of the youtube vids from dipyourcar.com.  They don't mask off very much with the letters.  Just spray the whole area and then peel the plasti-dip off the painted surface.  I've not tried this myself yet, but I do have a couple cans of the stuff waiting for me to try.

All of my instincts would lean to masking, so please post your results with the peeling technique. If you have good results, ill have to try it myself!

You really don't mask off like you would with paint. I left a 1 inch square around the badges because you want the plasti dip to get on your paint. I know it is different than everything you have ever done.

How do you peel all the little nooks and crannies?  Do you score it?

It tears off at sharp edges. It is really easy and took me less than 5 minutes to peel everything off. A toothpick comes in handy for the really small areas.

Thanks for the video Elund.  I saved it. I have been wondering how flat white would look.  I'd like to do the spear too.  And maybe the silver grill bars.  If I don't like it, it's nice to be able to just peel it off!

Looks very easy to peel off the unwanted dip. I think I'll try it. Should be kind of fun...and if you don't like the result, just take it off.
