From all the fun i've had with it recently, i know trans fluid at the ptu pretty well. He lost 8 qt's - that's a whole lot of trans fluid. I lost barely any trans fluid and it was a mess under there. It should be pretty obvious if that amount of trans fluid was getting in and out of the ptu.

a] I don't know the dealership or their reputation, b] I don't know the length of time this "issue" may have been occurring over. When you DIY, you notice things much more than when someone else does the work, c] it seems highly unlikely so much fluid could have been lost and it not be noticeable performancewise over time.

Strange. Seems like a negligence issue to me if there are no signs of leaks and no one's worked on it recently. At least they're doing the warranty work free of charge. Still a PITA.
How many miles on the car? And has it ever had a trans flush done that you know of?

No, i meant negligence on behalf of whoever worked on the car in the past. Nothing you did. Like drained the fluid and and forgot to put more in. Something like that. That's really the only explanation that i could think of where you'd be 8 qt's low with no leak anywhere.
