TCE Wilwood Brake Kit Front and Rear

I would give Tod at TCE a call  ..... My guess is that because  the Taurus , Edge , Flex and Explorer all share the same unibody platform that it is a good chance that the SHO kit will work on the Explorer Sport .

Very very nice but too rich for my blood.  I can live vicariously through the guys who take the plunge. :)

Well good news/bad news.
Todo is a very nice guy and believes he has a set up that would work for the XSport.....BUT....
My original purchase and first Mod on the truck... 24"Wheels are going to stop it.
I opted for a large lip setup and that doesn't allow room for the bigger rotors and caliper.
So my only option is to get a new set of wheels....bummer

Is the clearance issue huge or just a little?  Any possibility of wheel spacers to accommodate the brakes?

  Been there done that .....

I did the same thing ,  only had my SHO two months when I got aftermarket 20 " wheels . A few months later I decided I wanted to upgrade my brakes next . I found TCE through another forum and  bought the front kit first and started talking to TOD about the rear. I decided later that I did not want to use any kind of spacers ....  So I ended up buying new wheels again ....... !!!

There is only about 1/4 inch clearance with the stock rotor/caliper. So a setup with 14" or bigger rotors won't fit..
I love my wheels but really want the big brake kit..
May look into selling wheels and getting a new set to accommodate the brake set up I want..

I don't think I can use a wheel spacer.
I am running a 24"x9.5 and stock was 20"x8, I think.
Just not enough room with the way the wheel hugs the caliper..

Interesting discussion, as I never thought about any potential clearance related issues with the wheels.

Factory, or TCE's.

I am wondering now, given I have the TSW's, even though they are wider, they are still 20" in diameter.

Hhhmmmm :hmmm:

From what I understand, stock 20's require a 10mm spacer to cleae the front kit. Not from rotor interference but from the fat caliper. TSW might have more clearance in this area...

TSW , Giovanna and Niche make several wheels that have enough clearance for these "fat" calipers. My Giovanna Meccas have a + 38 offset .  Also look for rims that have thin spokes that will be less likely to have clearance issues.

Given that info, I would bargain to say that the Nurburgring's I'm currently sport'n on my '10 SHO, oughta be just fine.

Hopefully that's the case, as having to save up for this front & rear kit offering, ON TOP of having to purchase new wheels & tires would be a financial nightmare.

I will try to try to stress to my fellow SHO owners that all  GO and no SLOW is not a good thing !!
Several of these gen 6 SHO's are putting out 500 to 600+ HP in these " bricks" and with only minor brake upgrades. ?!?!?!

I have noticed a HUGE improvement in braking power with Shorter distances needed when braking heavily  ......
THERE Is NO Doubt that is brake SETTUP IS A major improvement over the stock PPE setup !!

I amazes me that people seem to be more concerned with Dumping HUGE amounts of money in more HP with very little concern in stopping power .....

In time  I will do Engine MODS to include high flow catted down pipes and aftermaket turbo's with a livernois tune soon ; more once I learn a little  about other options .
You are right. We have not talk much about brake. Here are threads that we have had and sorry lot more were done on the other Forum that were lost and never made it over here.

AND MORE LOOK UNDER BRAKES here on the forum.

Just an update for anyone still dreaming of a Big Brake Kit ......

TCE/ Wilwood Brakes are performing perfectly and are wearing very little to my amazement and pleasure    ..

These things bite and stop on a dime ..

I paid carefull attention to bedding the pads in and fade is non existent .....

8000 miles on brakes and could not be happier with this setup ..... ! !

I second that statement... I have about 1500 miles on my TCE/wilwood kit for the XSport and I have zero issues  and this thing stops on a dime. We have had a lot of bad weather since the install but I really took the time to make sure rotors and pads were broken in properly...
They LOOK Great and perform Great too...

We can now offer the front kit in 15" diameter btw.

Not sure if I am the 1st (to order the upgraded, 15" rotor) but I did finally place my order this past week (for the front axle only at this point) and besides incorporating the larger rotor, I also ordered a whole host of addt'l upgraded goodies from TCE.

A BIG shout out to Todd @ TCE for being nothing short of stupendous in every facet of the word, for assisting me with (& processing) my order.

I very much look forward to not only receiving the front axle set up, but am already tucking the necessary $$$ away to order the rears in due time as well.

Thanks bunches Todd! :thankyou:

bpd, keep us posted if the front wheel clear the calipers.

also, it would be nice to know from the people that have this kit, just how much offset is needed and what type of wheels, to clear the brake caliper without mounting a wheel spacer.
