The name ECOBOOST?????

What a terrible name, ECOBOOST for such a great engine. ECOBOOST sounds like some 4 banger economy 60's Pinto or a Mustang ll.

Yeah, it's pretty lame.  Thankfully its only plastered on a single badge on the rear and on the engine cover.

All for marketing purposes.

Seems quite successful to me...
I mean, Ecoboost has meaning to those who aren't even auto privy or auto savvy.
Hell, I'll bet my mother knows what EB is.

Ecoboost? Didn't know about the label until I saw badge on trunk. Targeted only grey metallic SHO in our area and didn't realize it was "ecoboost" until researching it after purchase. Great marketing,  lol

While it might be useful from a marketing perspective, I hate that they slap the name on everything from wimpy little economy engines to the 3.5 twin turbo that we all know and love.

Many people have heard the name and most associate it with economy.  Many of my non-enthusiast friends who see "ecoboost" on the back of my MKS will ask, "Does is really get great mileage?"  I want to say, "I don't give a rat's ass about mileage - I bought it for performance!"  However, I reply, "Yes, it really does give V6 mileage and V8 performance."

I wish they somehow separated the direct injected turbo engines into 2 groups - maybe call the 4 cylinder versions "ecoboost" and the V6 versions "TwinForce."

I admit, the enthusiast in me wishes Twin Force was kept. But, when stating an adage like, "6 Cylinder mileage with 8 cylinder performance", it rings true. I get about the same mileage out of this car as I did on my last car, which was 1K lbs lighter and with 2 fewer cylinders and 1 less turbo. And this was absolutely a factor for me when car shopping.

Don't get me wrong, I've always been irritated by "Ecoboost", and I've been irritated when clueless people talk about it. But, it's still something that has been successfull for Ford. From a marketing perspective, I thinks there's probably only one which beats it out, even to this day, and that's "Hemi".
But, I'm sure most are clueless about marketing titles, like TDI or Skyactiv or Pure Drive or Quattro, etc, etc..

What really grinds my gears is when people say "ECHOboost".... Really bothers me hah.

Yeah I have a co-worker with an Eco F-150 and she says ECHOboost. I always ask her if that was a special option as my to are called ecoboost. :)

have debadged mine so no mention of taurus or ecoboost, only SHO. another good thing about 6 with performance of an 8 is insurance. have a challenger r/t, insurance rafts more than a sho, as on the title were says hp, my state uses some kind of formula & 6 comes out way less, the eco 4 2L in my escape is even more economical in insurance category.
