Used PTU still in good condition

How much would someone pay for a used PTU. I had it replaced by the dealer when it started to leak due to a gasket failure. I just didn't trust them to change out the gasket. I sold my SHO so I no longer need to hang onto it.

Personally, for one in excellent shape, with no issues, I would only pay a max of 50% cost of new. Given the gasket issue, max I would pay is something to the effect of 30-35% max.

How many miles on it when you had it replaced?

Are there rebuild kits out there for these things, or are they basically throw-aways when they break?

No rebuild kits.  OTOH, they are simply gears, no clutch packs, so i suppose you could source your own.

Just wondering which component(s) are failing. Are gear teeth actually shearing?

I've heard limited oil capacity increases the propensity to overheat. If that were resolved somehow, what's the next weakest link?

The fluid IMHO, or rather the insufficient qty of it.  The PTU has gone through several iterations without resolving the issue.  Regular fluid changes + the extended vent ar a minimum are needed.  The gears get chewed up once the fluid breaks down
