Wheel options (other than TSW?)

Not that there is anything wrong with the TSW line, it just seems thats what everyone goes with... I own a Ducati Superbike because I love unique things and no one in my area owns a Ducati, and Im the same way with my car!

Ive been looking at a few wheels and cant really decide what to go with. I really like the FK Ethos RT-Nova wheels and the Drag DR-37 wheels on this page: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/searchWheelsByVehicleAndSize.do?bp=&yr=2010&wd=20&rw=&vid=016652

I am going to lower the car an inch or so, nothing drastic as I don't want to worry about scraping anywhere..
What offset will give me that "oh so close to the fender lip" look without rubbing? What about different sizes front and rear... 8.5 front 10 rear kinda look is always nice! How much difference can we have between the front wheel diameter and rear wheel diameter before risking damage to the AWD system?

Sorry for all the questions, just new to the SHO and AWD in general..

TireRack has lots of options as do many other sources.  Going with different widths front and back needs creativity and perhaps on site fitment testing.  Best way is to use an offset calculator for various widths and offsets.  Stock width is 8" and offset is 38-39, in both 19" & 20" diameters.  I am running 32 offset 18" x 9" and they fill the fender edge perfectly.

Diameter of tires should be within a 1/2 inch or less.

Ill have to do my homework and maybe get out the ruler and tape measure with the stock wheels to see exactly how much offset I want... Offset vs width is always one of those concepts that takes a few minutes of studying to "remember" how they interact and be able to dial in the numbers I want.

Is anyone currently running a wider rear wheel than front on a SHO? Id love to hear your input on width/offset/tire sizes that have worked for you.

Staggering wheels on AWD is like putting your peepee in your neighbors wife--it's not right! Go get a RWD vehicle.

TSW are the chit; I'm putting them on my RX8 now--I run 20x8.5 with 45 offset on the SHO; lower offset farther out the wheel is. With 255/45/20 on 20x8.5 +45 mine is flush with fender.

I see you have a strong opinion on the staggered wheel issue... to each his own I guess. As for TSW's, they are very nice wheels, I agree but so does everyone else who has a SHO. I really like the FK Ethos Nova wheels, I think they look just as good as the TSW's and should be almost as light. Another plus with the FK's, every other SHO doesn't have them :)

P.S. I do have a RWD car, and yes it has staggered wheels.

I love stagger; about to do it on my RX8 -- but I laugh at every ..... who does it to an AWD--it serves no purpose. :)

Ethos Nova; those the star wheels? That would be REALLY different.

Been run'n a staggered set up on my SHO for 2+ years now, no issues whatsoever.

Daily driven, and track time.

8.5's up front, 10's in the rear.

Love it :ok:

Another vote for staggered, will be doing it on my Flex. Sometimes it's about looks and not necessarily function, if it was function I'd be running 18x10 up front sticking out with some 275/50R18 drag radials :)

What you waiting for then Mike? You want those 10 second 1/4 miles -- better get to butter balling your wheels.

They do; it's called a paint shop. :)

10's will come in the Flex, might be '14 or '15 but I'll get there, don't worry.

if I'm spending that kind of coin for wheels, I shouldn't have to spend more repainting/powdercoating them.

Price of the game man -- we are all Fast and Furious up in here; think those parts are cheap?

Wait till you see my RX8; I'm going FULL retard on that bad boy; straight F&F style.

So I take it your not a fan of the Ethos Nova? Would like to get some real feedback on how people think these would look on a white SHO! Like I said before, nothing agains TSW, I just like to have something a little different, stand out from the crowd. As for staggered vs not, it really does just boil down to looks, I know full well that its not needed in an AWD car, but you just cant beat the aggressive look!

My only concern is the diameter difference front vs rear... bpd, you say you have never had an issue with it?

geswek, you wouldnt happen to have some pictures of your car with the 45mm offset, maybe a couple shots from a 3/4 view from the front and back? Id love to see an offset that brings the tire close to the fender lip with the 255-45-20's

I too was running a staggered set on my Flex at the strip.... 18"x9" 32 offset on front with 285-40 -18 Nitto O5R DR's on TSW Interlagos 9". and 18" x 8"  40 0ffset ASA AR2's on back with Conti DW's - 255-45-18  Hooked up great when everyone else was spinning out.

However, at least on the Flex, I prefer matching wheels/tires as a DD.  Currently running Michelin Pilot Supersports on TSW Interlagos 18" x9".  Tires handle fantastic!!!!

BPD's set looks great in person... probably would do same if I had a SHO and could find the correct diameter tires in a staggered config.

I hear ya, limited time at the track wouldn't worry me but taking a 500 mile road trip or just general daily driving scares me thinking about the front being even slightly smaller than the rear. Is there a tolerance that must me maintained between the front and rear tire diameters?

I drove my Flex 120 mi each way to the track with Nitto's on, but they are almost exactly the same height as the rears were.

I don't think you have to worry as much about AWD as the ABS system.  It just makes sense to have same diameter, even if rear tires are an inch or 2 wider.  For instance 245-45 is usually almost the same as 275-40.  You can use TireRacks specs for tires you are looking at to see if a diameter match is achievable.  For tires they don't sell, usually MFG website can give you specs.

Bob, I relied very heavily on your knowledge of tires & what not to help me arrive at my current staggered set up.

If it wasn't for your help exclusively, I'd still be trying to figure it out on my own.

TY, once again, for that assistance.
