Improving/increasing Turbo sound

I've been looking into ideas/ways to hear the turbos a bit more on the sport since they are just so quiet.  I came across a huge 30 some page post on the F-150 ecoboost forums about the intake system having two attenuators in them.

If anyone remembers the old tornado infomercials this is pretty much the idea.  Its put into the intake piping prior to the turbos to help dampen sound.

So to bring this story to full close, has anyone had any of the intake piping off on either a Sport, Flex, or Taurus SHO to confirm or deny if this is even on this version of the ecoboost?

I'd probably give this a try, but before wrenching all day I figured I'd ask around first! As a side note, i'm not talking about BOV sound, i'm talking the building of boost whistle, so please don't send me to the vent to atmosphere threads :D

Thanks!

Ryan

Mmm; I hear my turbo's spool up with my Corsa exhaust -- even hear it driving when I get on it.

I don't have any intentions of pulling tubing at any time to look--it's kinda pita.

Where's this link? I'd like to see it.

Here is links to the two pictures of what they are talking about.

And here is the 30 something page thread that has the normal internet genius pissing contests :D

Those look to me that they start turning the air so the turbos wind up faster.

My background is in aviation, and while i'm no engineer and can't say for sure, they are too far from the compressor to be the equivalent of inlet guide vanes in my eyes.  Depending on the direction of compressor flow it could be for that, or if the other way it would be to spoil the air thus slowing it down and making it quieter.

The transverse Ecoboost engine doesn't have anything like those. While exhaust and CAI kits make to turbo's more audible, you will never get whistle like a large turbo has. They just have a high acoustic resonance, much like soprano sax sound compared to a bass sax, the sound is there just isn't audible.

I'm not disagreeing that it won't sound like a big single, but how can a similarly sized single k03 (used on the truck) on my A4 be pretty noticable, but two of them (GT-15's) on our ecoboosts are damn near silent?

I think it's intake/exhaust design tbh.

I have Airaid intake and Corsa exhaust and I hear my turbo's just fine. It's even louder when I am in a parking garage.

Good argument, while am no expert. I have heard 2 like sounds cancel each other out, and is how some noise canceling systems work. Just my unedjimcated guess.

Those stupid contraptions remind of this TV sales gimmick crap from many years ago (which i'll add never worked as advertised).....

Those aren't in the intake pipes on the transverse vehicles.
More turbos sound = either upgraded turbos or an intake like mine with the filter in the drivers fender.

As far as the F150 parts those were developed by the sound and noise division to reduce turbo sounds, they didn't think the owners would understand the sounds so every effort was made to reduce any turbo sound and BoV hiss.

Hhmmmm....

Interesting to know/learn about there 4DR.

1st, I didn't know really.

2nd, I was under the impression it was placed (within each piece of plumbing that feeds each turbo) based upon the picture of where they were installed.

Finally, 3rd, it still reminds me of those stupid Tornado product thingy's from back in the early 90's. Ha!

I'm just surprising myself that I still remembered those darn contraptions.

With the K&N intake I can hear the turbos and the blow offs quite well. With the windows down its quite loud. I wonder how it sounds with the Hennessy kit?

If you didn't read the link to the f150 forum you really should, some of the explinations for what these are, are just hilarious.  It's long but worth it if you need a few laughs.

Well, since they aren't on the sport then I guess I'll just move on, but maybe a f-150 ecobooster will find this useful later!

I should create an account (over there) and as my 1st post, go into that thread and just go completely off the wall and say that those are the newest design(s) in contraception devices.

An evil plot conjured up by a female engineer who thought to install those as a psuedo type of intra-uterine device so when a male attempts to umm.... errrr..... "insert" that they end up getting all..... well.....

Dismembered.

Bwahahahahahaha
