I actually tried the outside first quite some time ago. A lot of the box won't fit in the car with anything on the outside.

If anybody has datalogs showing otherwise, post em up and i will pull my steak off the grill and throw on some crow. Not only that, they will be the only option on record that that actually works. it is in their best interests to do the right thing. I will back up my words with cash in the form of an order for the improved unit, what say you Airaid?jmr061 said:kinder said:jmr061 said:I was thinking the same thing. The product doesn't work as it should. The company should design and provide free of charge a fix to better seal the unit. I pulled mine out as have many others because it doesn't work as it should.
It does work as intended.... for track use. Not strip or street but track. In motion it performs fine hence the fan driven dyno numbers.
But most of us don't track our cars. We street them and some take them to the strip. All these mods are to find a way to get the best of both worlds in one package.![]()
With that reasoning they wouldn't provide any weatherstripping at all since a seal wouldn't be desired. I'm calling them out.

Call Airaid and tell them you want the D style seal not the blade. They should send it to you. You can then get the foam from the first post. You might want to hold off till tomorrow. I am in the process of testing the taller blade style strip that I got yesterday.

No....airaid should send it all. I shouldn't have to get a foam strip myself.
Right, cause us guys buying $47k cars couldn't afford a pricier CAI that actually works.ShoBoat said:jmr061 said:ShoBoat said:TimmyATL said:How might I aquire the correct rubber seal to start this modification lol.

In all fairness to Airaid, this is an improvement to their product. I did try out the taller blade style weather strip. And it did form a much better seal then the original one that came with the kit. My only concern is that it's not as playable as my design and pushes up on the hood a fair bit. It makes it harder to close the hood. It did a fair job of isolating the air from the box from the engine. As you can see from the pic below.

That said I'm going to keep my setup, it seals perfectly as good as the oem box. Airaid is sending me a D style weatherstrip at no charge. As the one I am currently using is from my old K&N and I have now sold that unit. When I spoke to them today they said there was 2 reasons not to go with a sealed top. One was volume. They wanted as much as possible, 2 was cost. It would have raised the cost of the kit considerably.
You didn't say it, they did, if your description of the conversation is accurate.ShoBoat said:I don't believe I said that, Christ get over it. 99% of CAIs sold don't do ****. In fact they hurt power. We just showed you how to get a decent increase to intake with a simple $10 mod. All the other intakes I have seen (including my old K&N) can't be made to perform as good as the stock intake. When I called K&N you know what they said? It made more power on the dyno and that's what we stated in our claims. So basically go F*** yourself. Airaid has done what they can to help me out and I have to give them props for that. I asked for taller they sent it to me. I asked for the D style weatherstrip and they are sending that too. So if you bought one spend the $10 to make it work better that it was even intended to. If not list it for sale. I'll bet you someone will buy it up quick! I had a hell of a time unloading my K&N.

I'm really not sure why you're being hostile to JMR, he's not the one screwing us, it's AIRAID and K&N. You've done the hard work to prove it and I'm pretty sure everybody here appreciates it. I know I do as you saved me from wasting another couple hundred bucks on another product that flat out doesn't work.
You may be OK with modding the box you already spent cash on but there are others who may not. Personally, I'm at the point in my life, I'm not interested in working on my car, I pay people to put high quality products on my car. I'd rather be driving it.

SHOnUup said:Just a bummer they felt making it "work better" or "as it should", was sacrificed for price point it looks. Hey, it's America, at least the persistence by ShoBoat found a solution.
SHOnUup said:Just to be clear. Not mad here.
Cheap, DIY, mod that adds performance. Sounds fun.
That being said, I probably wouldn't purchase one without the taller stripping. The insulating of the box seems alot cheaper to DIY it than them researching, designing, and testing it.
SHOdded said:Persistence is ShoBoat's middle nameSpeaking of which, ShoBoat, we need you to shift your attention to the catchcan project
Still not sure of the %age of vehicles to benefit from this, but would be cool to have a verified working solution for the SHO (probably Flex too)!
jmr061 said:So they admit they thought it better to allow hot engine air into a cold air intake. I'm sorry....that's bad business and false advertising.
