OK... This involves wheels and tires. I'm starting to shop seriously as this is coming within the year, even if the tires have tread since they have been on the car since 9/2013. I don think I want to do a staggered setup... And plan an all season tire. ...But I'd like a more aggressive appearance and better traction.

I'm considering going to a wheel that's 20x9 with a 35-36mm offset. This should let me use a wider tire all round without stretching or poking and get about an inch wider footprint. There looks to be enough clearance in front... Although it is just over a cm (1.2 - 1.3) from OEM sidewall to the spring cup on the strut and this idea would use about half that. The back end should be no problem.

I'd like to stay within 0.3" diameter of the OEM (which is 28.7") and don't want to go smaller than OEM because of wanting a better fill of the wheel wells too. (Not ready to do lowering springs yet)

So what are you folks' thoughts on the wheel size and whatsize tire would you go with?

TIA

I would do 275/40/20 all around...i wish the oem wheel was 8.5" or 9" wide so i could run that tire..275 all around should make it a grip monster

Right....i just dont know the offset of the stock flower power...but i think its an 8" not 8.5 like you had in the calculator....i settled for 255 tire because i was afraid the 275 would bulge too much...but i know 275 is nice on a 9" wheel

OEM

20" x 8"
5 LUG, 4-1/2"/114.3 PATTERN
39MM OFFSET
DG1Z-1007-G / DG13-1007-EA
Thanks Manu.
Yea AJ... The appearance is good.... If I go this way I'll need a wheel with a 30-33 mm offset for clearance... The wheel would poke about 19-20mm farther out... So a solid inch or a little more for the tires...That might work.
New calculation:
http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=245&aspect=45&diameter=20&wheelwidth=8&offset=39&width2=275&aspect2=40&diameter2=20&wheelwidth2=9&offset2=30&Submit=Calculate#content
That wheel may take a little search ... If anyone actually makes it.

Niche makes the Enyo M115 Wheel 20x8.5 5x4.5 (5x114.3) Black Machined 35MM Offset that has more comfortable clearance and poke... That calculation is below:
http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=245&aspect=45&diameter=20&wheelwidth=8&offset=39&width2=275&aspect2=40&diameter2=20&wheelwidth2=8.5&offset2=35&Submit=Calculate#content
But it might be a bit much to try a 275/40 on it... Thoughts?
It looks like this:

My opinion is that our wheels are beautiful and unique, everybody I run into loves them and most can't believe they came with the car. IMHO, a lot of the "wheel upgrades" I've seen are downgrades in quality and appearance from OEM.

I've wrestled with this because I don't want to spend a bunch of money to find out I prefer the stockers....even though I would love to shed some weight, I'm not sure I want to risk it. There are a few wheels that I love and am sure I wouldn't have buyers remorse but all of them are well north of 5 grand.

I think using some spacers to push the stockers out coupled with the beefiest tire it can handle with a proper drop may be an inexpensive and overlooked solution.

In order to fit a 275, the minimum wheel width is 9 inches. Many reputable shops will not install a 275 on anything less than 9 in. wheel. 8.5 inch wheel should net you a 265 tire, however, those are highly more priced compared to 275 and 255 tires.

Bigmac im not sure about ur calcs and the package being 17 or so mm closer or further out.....just thinking quickly...if the offset is the same and new wheel is 1" wider then the difference is split....1/2" wider each side...so 12.5 mm closer to strut...but ur new wheel has a 4mm lower offset than stock so it will go out near fender 4mm...so that 9" wheel with 35mm offset should only be 8.5mm closer to strut

And the 275 is only 3cm wider than stock. So split that too...im not lowered but even if i was i think the 275 40 20 on a 9" wheel is easy....i like to do things excessive and if it was me id do that or even do a 285 on a 9" or 9.5" wheel!

I'm lowered with 20x9 38mm offset. Perfect fit, you can probably get away with 35mm offset with this size wheel, but any bigger size wheel and you may have to go 275/35/20 that way you don't rub if you hit big bumps, that is  with h&r springs. On stock suspension, wider than 9, and if it sticks out a little, may not present problems.

for what its worth, I am running 275-40 with 20x8.5 wheels in the front and have had no problems what so ever and they seem to fit just fine.  I also have on the back 315-35 on 20x10 and they are perfect.  I have a flex so I am not sure if the set up I run would squeeze under a SHO.  But I would try it if I knew someone with a SHO close by.  I know you don't wanna do staggard but the 275-40 all around would be ideal for what you want.  the size and offset you picked should be just fine.

I am running a 20"×9.5" with 275-40/20 tires in the front and 295 40's in the back with no fitment issues.

Very similar aftermarket wheels compared to stock.

I'm considering this idea myself as I can't decide on what wheels and or size to go with but I know that I want the back wheels to look wider with a more aggressive stancel.  What's a good site to order the spacers and is there a specific brand that works best?  I have a '13 with PP.

i found a great deal on some 20x10 wheels.  but i don't know if our cars can handle that size.  i have a 2010 MKS-EB.  the best tire size for those would be 275-40s with the overall diameter being the same as stock 20x8.5 w/245-45s.

these wheels are also cast aluminum, so its not like they are light.  think the manufacturer list them at 39 pounds each.

would that possibly be too much stress on the trans/AWD?

i definitely prefer a wider tire.  i had some 255s on and the front end grip seemed noticeably better than stock 245s and with better steering feel.  i also like the look of the tire filling up the wheel wells a bit more.

if anyone has any info on this (20x10 wheels/275-40 tires) please let me know.

i'm seriously thinking about getting these, but i'm worried about fitment and possible transmission issues given the weight of the wheels (39 pounds)...

Stock wheels are 20x8's.

I am running a 20x10 wheel in the rear, & have for some years now, w/o any negative effects.

I am aware of only one person who ran a 20x10 in the front, but warned of rubbing issues when turning.

As far as weight goes, and it's perceived negative effects on the trans/drive train,  I'd be hard pressed to say that would be an issue, as the OEM wheels are incredibly heavy to begin with.

Any aftermarket wheel selected, will likely be lighter (even in a wider width) than the OEM setup.

I'd be most concerned about rubbing when turning,  with a 20x10 up front more than anything.

what about a 20x10 wheel with 255 40r20 tires?

that should be fine, i'm thinking w/o any necessary augmentation to the front end.

according to all websites i've searched, a 255-40 tire fits a 20x10 wheel.  i wish a 255- 45 would fit, but seems like the max width of the wheel for that tire is 9.5 inches.

a 255 40r20 is within the recommended 3% margin of change in diameter.  only down side i can see is that tire is more expensive than a 255 45r20.

I believe the 3% difference is within each other, not the factory diameter. So if they're all the same size (255/40/20) you should be good to go.
