SHO May be totaled, IDK what to do...

I'm yearning for pics.

Always interesting to see how well a car holds up in a crash, and succeed at keeping the occupants safe/intact, regardless of the visual carnage incurred.

This is an Aussie car (Holden Commodore).

In Australia buying a Commodore if you are a Ford guy will get you shunned by your family I am kinda in shock someone in an Ecoboost forum would suggest something like this especially to someone who currently owns 2 Fords

@derfdog15

Glad you are OK, that sounds like a massive accident!

Did the guy who hit you/overtook you on the shoulder stop to see if you were OK?
Did you ask what the hell he was doing/thinking?

What happened leading up to him overtaking you, was he behind you in the overtaking lane or did he approach from a distance and then pull into the shoulder as soon as he got close/behind you?

What car was he in?

So my dad went out and looked at the car. From what he said I really don't think they will total it, but IDK. Based on what we can see, the below is what needs fixed/corrected.

Front bumper, grills, LH head light, LH driving/fog light. LH fender. LH a-pillar needs some massaging. Hood. Rear bumper, rear LH tailights (both interior and exterior). Paint Correction on trunk. May need a new tranny cooler or lines (seems to be a leak at the cooler or on a line). Also needs  Front LH rim and tire. RH front may need a tire, the tire on there is a bit dirty and has some mud caked in.

Engine starts fine, and was running when the car stopped due to the incident. Everything underneath looks fine as well.

Kbb value on the car prior to the accident is somewhere close to 26k best I can tell. I am thinking damage is at most 15k, so hopefully it gets fixed. I'll keep y'all updated.

I'll probably take some at the next step, but don't plan to go out and mess around at the car anymore/hurt my feelings anymore until insurance decides if it is being fixed or totaled.

Haha, yeah only ever been Ford in my family since I was born. When my parents met my mom had a Nissan, which she crashed and it was replaced with a '95 Taurus. My dad had a 1993 F150 since before I was born, and just recently gave the 93 to a cousin since he got a 2011 ecoboost F150 4x4 about a year ago. After the taurus my mom got an escort, and then an '06 fusion, which she still has (200k miles, its been going strong since we got it at 40k in 08). There is also a 2011 Focus at my house that was my grandmas before she stopped driving. And ofcourse the 03 mustang V6 turbo project.

So yeah, SS sounds fun, and I would gladly drive one a few times, but I doubt I could ever own one. Same goes for something like a CTS-V or ATS-V. Fun cars, but if it ain't Ford I can't own it.

He was originally in front of me, there was a challenger RT going slow in the left lane ahead of him passing a Semi. After passing the Semi, the RT cut over to the right, and then as the guy that hit me (Jetta TDI) went to pass the RT started speeding up to try and block him. TDI got on it, and opened up a gap, and I didn't want to deal with the RT, so when I got close, I gunned it, passed him quick and got over to the right lane. At that point I was next to the TDI, and comming up on another Semi. TDI was going about 73 at that point, and I had plenty of space, so I gunned it again, and got over (left him enough room for sure). Passed the semi, and went to get back into the right lane (1.5 miles from my exit), as I was going over to the right, the TDI tried to get over fast and was accelerating. I went back to the left lane, and he did so as well- almost rear-ending me, at which point he accelerated and went onto the shoulder to pass me. His RH rear door was parallel to my LH Front Wheel when he started moving over, I swerved and the rear kicked out on the SHO. He made contact with his door to my fender, and the car went into a spin.

The TDI driver stopped as well (possibly would not have, but his car stuffed it into the RH shoulder, facing into traffic, was leaking anti-freeze, hole in his RH rear door, mashed in front end, damaged rear end as well). Basically said he over-reacted to me going back into left lane, thought I was trying to block him, etc. I am pretty sure insurance is going to deem it mutually at fault.

I know exactly what it is, and what it can do... and yes, if my Taurus gets totaled I would get one...

Not sure why it's shocking... it's a beast of a car... another sleeper... faster than the SHO...

And last I checked I am not in Australia.... and even then... I drive what I want.

From my point of view, like I said, I don't think I could own one personally, but I definitely respect what they are, and the 6 speed option is for sure appealing. I've seen stock motor, light bolton, and boosted Chevy SS's at the track and they always do well, and they sound amazing. Not knowing my personal history of being a Ford family it is a good suggestion, and I appreciate it.

At this point my dad is starting to get antsy and saying drop the claim and he will fix the SHO on his own, but I'd rather see what they say. Only time will tell.

Sooo the Chevy SS is what happened when Pontiac went out of business who used to host the Commodore (Pontiac G8)...

Here is an LMS video showing a SHO taking out a mustang GT... the last part of the video the chase car is a Pontiac G8... (Chevy SS)... and it would tear both the mustang and the sho a new one..

https://youtu.be/2Ts2Jr68d4Y

I love my SHO, and we have had a SHO in the family since 1989 when they came out. And have owned at least one of each generation since...

Does not mean I can appreciate another bada$$ sleeper that in all seriousness will tear the SHO apart dollar per dollar (including aftermarket dollars).

If I was your pops I would let the insurance company handle it... if they haven't decided who's fault it is yet, technically you can still be on the hook for the others guys car if they come back with you being at fault...

It's sure the deductible is a lot less than repairing all that body work...

For sure. That is exactly what I told him. Deductable is $500, which is less than the combined tows will end up being. Just a headlight or tailight replacement (part or full) is more expensive than the deductible. Not to mention, even if we got it all ready to go body wise, Tuxedo Black is a PITA to paint match/blend, even for experienced painters, so that alone would be more than the deductible.

I am sure the insurance will try and replace with some used parts, which is fine by me, as long as everything is sound and works as needed.

LOL yeah mate i was just joshin with ya. I meant that in a humorous way.

Regarding not being in Australia - us Aussie may be more loyal to the Blue Oval / Red lion than Americans are, but i have lived in the States long enough to know that the rivalry is still alive and well here in the USA.

Like i said i was just kiddin around.

So basically the guy in the RT was being a jerk? Or the Jetta and RT were in some sort of road rage incident that you happened upon?
*sigh* and a totaled (possibly) SHO is the outcome. Sad day.

Hmm G8 GXP? Link to the video doesn't work. There were several variants of the G8... the 6.2 was the LS variant.. the 6.0 was significantly slower.

Nice slips though!

yeah you probably have to be Seth (the G8 owners) Friend on facebook to see the video i guess.

I suspect it was a 6.0L

Glad to hear your OK, and still with US, Could have been a lot Worse,
Tell the insurance Company You Want all New Parts, NO Seconds..
I Can Barely remember EACH Total, and yes, more than One, I was 18 -20
Let us know how it turns out...

I just checked, its a "G8 GT" so that means its a 6.0L L76 engine

Good deal, I suspect stock vs stock in the 1/8th a SHO will take a G8 GT... let alone a mildly tuned SHO, you probably tore into him a bit.

Second that one!! A lot of insurance companies will just go with OE stuff... but if you tell them only OEM gear depending on the insurance company, they are suppose to honor it.

As everyone said glad to hear your ok, in my past experience as long as the damage is less than 2/3 car value they'll repair it. Had a srt4 at 20 years old(super fun but not the best choice) crashed twice once at 70 into a guardrail which got repaired. Second one was a telephone pole at 45, that time I caught it in the passenger door...totaled. pretty much if you ruin the floor pan or roof (I did both) cars is fubar.
